RICHARD (DICK) JOHN EDMUND JONES February 26, 1935 - November 27, 2013 Peacefully at home with his wife by his side, Dick went to meet his Lord and Saviour. He leaves behind his loving wife Sharon (nee Rafnson) of 57 years and his children Kathleen Dornbush (Allan), Kenneth, Gary and Micheal. Also left to cherish his memory are his 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Dick was very proud of his 40 year profession as a furrier. He was an avid gardener and spent all year planning for the next year's crop, harvesting his seeds and creating new hybrids. He loved to spend the fall with his wife canning the fruits of their labour, including their famous dill pickles. Dick loved the outdoors and would spend hours sitting in the yard drinking coffee with his wife, watching the birds and sharing his extensive knowledge of nature with his grandchildren. He also loved to read. His favourite book was his Bible, where he stored pictures of his family, his pride and joy, between the pages. He was a man with a large heart, and displayed his love with silent gestures. We love you Dad and Grandpa. While our hearts are heavy, we are so happy you are now at peace. Your memory will live on forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. at 341 Eveline St. in Selkirk. The family gratefully decline flowers. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Uncle Dick was a very close uncle to me. He had a fun way of demonstrating his love for someone: he would tease them mercilessly! And he was good at it, with that glint in his eye and smirk on his face. But there were also times he would take you aside and quietly tell you how proud he was of you. I will miss seeing him at our Christmas Eve get togethers. Rest in Peace, Uncle. And to all the Joneses, my thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Kurt Ganske (Nephew) on: Dec 01, 2013

  • Goodbye to my friend and fellow gardening enthusiast. I learned a great deal of gardening tips and tricks from Dick and was always impressed with his great garden every year. He shared great stories and gardening seeds as well. A few years ago Dick and Sharon introduced me to Folklorama for which I am truly grateful, I had a marvelous time. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dick's family and especially to Sharon, Dick was a thoughtful and loving husband, a really great guy, who will be missed terribly. I am going to miss him but I am thankful to have known him and am glad he is no longer living with any sickness, illness or pain. - Posted by: Allison day (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2013

  • We remember the good times fishing at Nutamick lake, in the Whhiteshell, boating. We remember when you were tenting at Whiteshell and the oil heater, sent sot all over the tent, and Jim went to get Dick and all Jim could see was the whites of his eyes. - Posted by: Jim & Marty Blake (Friends) on: Nov 30, 2013
