JOSEPH CWIK Peacefully on December 1, 2013, Joseph Cwik passed away. Joseph was born in Rakowka, Poland in 1928 and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1949, arriving on his 21st birthday in Emerson, Manitoba. Soon after, the family moved to Winnipeg and Joseph found work with the Canadian National Railway, working for the next 32 years in Track Maintenance and later as a foreman, until his retirement. He had many interests, but most of all he loved to read and travel. It was rare to find him without a book close at hand, often about his favourite subjects - history and politics. And when he could, he took the chance to travel. In the 1970s, most summer vacations were spent on the road, with trips across the United States and Canada, and when he retired he went on a tour of Europe. In later years he enjoyed escaping Canadian winters with visits to Mexico, the Bahamas, and Barbados. He moved to Toronto in 2000 where he soon made new friends in the neighbourhood and explored the city on his daily walks. Joseph will be remembered for his great humour, patience, and compassion. He was a devoted son and brother, and a loving father who will be greatly missed. A special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Toronto Grace Hospital who provided exceptional care and comfort. Cremation has already taken place and no memorial service will be held. Donations in memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
