JAMES MCCORMICK It is with sad hearts that the family of James McCormick announce his passing on November 30, 2013. Jim was born in Newdale, Manitoba on November 30, 1931; the youngest of nine children born to Thomas and Janet McCormick. They moved to the Interlake and the town of Stonewall where Jim spent his childhood years. The family moved to Winnipeg where Jim spent his youth and where he worked and lived until moving to Gunton in 1986. Jim worked at Bristol Aerospace for 42 years, where he was a painter and then the supervisor of the paint shop. He supervised the painting of Canada's famous Snow Birds, the CF101 jets, and the Black Brandt rockets, replicas of which have been on display at the Winnipeg Planetarium, and small replicas which he painted were presented as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II. Jim married Irene de Jersey in 1960 and together they have two children: Darren (Ashley Priem) Wyeth and Niav; Colleen Penner (Keith) Brittany (fiancé Josh Eason) and Alicia. Jim will always be remembered by his grandchildren for his stories and playfulness. They had many good times listening to his whoppers and laughed when they had to verify whether or not the stories were true. He especially liked to sing funny little songs to his grandchildren. Darren and Colleen will always remember their dad for teaching them his strict work ethic and the meticulous manner in which he performed anything he set out to do. His life motto was "If it is worth doing, it's worth doing right." Jim's favourite times were spent with his family. He spent many hours reading the newspaper, watching his favourite sports on television, and repairing small appliances, motors, and maintaining his home. There will be an emptiness in our hearts forever and we will cherish the good times we all spent together. At Jim's request, there will be no formal funeral service. A private memorial will be held by his family. In lieu of flowers, if friends or family so desire, a donation may be sent to Stonewall Youth Drop In Centre, P. O. Box 1188, Stonewall, MB ROC 2Z0 or Stonewall & District Health Centre, Stonewall, MB ROC 2Z0. The family wishes to thank Dr. Graham, the Stonewall Hospital staff and paramedics for their compassion and excellent care during the many days Jim spent in the hospital. May God be with you on your journey. We will all be together again someday and we will again enjoy your stories and your funny little songs. We love you and will miss you always.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Uncle Jim was a very special person to me growing up and our families in the early years were very close. I will always remember the stories and especially the ones told by Great Uncle Herb and Uncle Jim in the kitchen of his home in St. James. My condolences to Aunt Irene, Darren, Colleen and their families. Tom Dopson and family. - Posted by: Tom Dopson (Nephew) on: Jan 05, 2014

  • Best wishes to the family and very sorry for your loss. Many great times at 382 Inglewood and many classic stories by Jim - some believable, some a little embellished. Glad to hear great times and stories were passed on to the grandkids. Our sympathies. Jack Smart and Family - Posted by: Jack Smart (Friend) on: Dec 10, 2013

  • I remember going camping at St. Malo with my parents (Andy and Tiny) and Jimmy and Irene with Darren and Colleen and also with Alex and Gladys Tait.
