WILLIE PALEHITSKI It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Willie Palehitski. Willie died December 8, 2013 at age 72, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Left to miss him terribly are his wife of 46 years, Wilma, his children Walter and Wendy, his sister Helene Mondor (Ed), brother Hector, brother-in-law Walter Curti, brother-in-law Dave Curti (Margaret), brother-in-law Lou Curti (Claudette), along with other family members and many friends. Willie enjoyed his long career at Winnipeg Elevator, and many hobbies over the years, but his true love (second to Wilma, of course) was his cottage at Lee River. Willie had been coming to Lee River since he was a teen and it was with great pride that he was able to buy his cottage there 38 years ago. He and Wilma eventually retired out at the cottage and we're grateful for the years he had there prior to getting sick. Willie was known to all as someone who could fix anything, and was called upon often to do so. He never hesitated for a second, always willing to lend a hand, doing all he could for anyone in need. Willie had a special kindness and warmth about him and we believe that the sound of his name will continue to bring a smile to the faces of all who knew him. We, his family, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home for the loving care they gave to Willie over the past several years, and for the kindness and compassion they showed to us as well. They seemed to have the capacity of seeing what was special about Willie, in spite of the fact that his illness had already taken so much of who he was. We will be forever grateful. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Willie's life will be held at Lee River in July. Donations may be made in Willie's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or the new Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home Fund.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • So sorry I was unable to attend the memorial for Willie. He was a very knowledgeable and kind man as well as a great mentor to many an apprentice, including myself, at Winnipeg Elevator. It was a privilege to have known and worked with him for many years as his helper. He taught me many skills and life lessons which I will carry and hopefully pass on to the next generation through the rest of my career in the elevator industry. Rest well my teacher. You are gone but not forgotten. - Posted by: Harley Alexiuk (co-worker) on: Jul 14, 2014

  • Remembering you and Wilma. Remembering many times with your father (my uncle Bill), your mother Helen, sister Helen & Ed Mondor, brother Hector, Bill Romano. We used to see you all the time until you retired and totally moved out to Lee River. Times with your favorite brand Club Beer, shuffleboard, fishing. Times when you worked on the job site, you as an elevator technician, me as a fire sprinkler fitter. The hands of time wait for no one. May God bless and we see you again across the great divide! - Posted by: Garry Palahitski (1 st cousin) on: Dec 15, 2013
