DOUGLAS LAILEY 1943 ! 2013 With heavy hearts, our family announces the peaceful passing of Douglas Joseph William Lailey on December 10, 2013. Devoted husband, father, Afi, brother, uncle and friend to many. Born in High River, AB and raised in Winnipeg, MB. Doug's core values - honesty, hard work and an amazing balance between family and work - served him well throughout his life. His business life began in Winnipeg with MTS and Labatts Brewery as an accounting clerk. He earned his CPA (CMA) (RIA) graduating with honours in Vancouver and moved on to Calgary with a short stay with Pillsbury Canada. In 1975 he joined Shaw Pipe Protection. Over the next 25 years he worked in many areas, and as the company grew so did Doug. He met many new challenges and travelled the world until retiring as Senior Vice President North America with Shawcor in 2000. He served as Director of Saxon Petroleum Inc., DLR Investments, and most recently as Board Chairman of Cortex Business Solutions Inc. Doug enjoyed life skiing, golfing, fly fishing with buddy Don and their boys, travelling "let's go" with Rhona. He built happy memories in his Springbank home and garden, the cabin in Windermere, the cottage in Gimli with Icelandic family and friends and being a snowbird in the Southern U.S.A. Most of all, giving his unconditional love to his family. Doug is survived by his soul mate of 47 years, Rhona Caroline; three cherished children, Loren Irvine, Dayna (Darcy) Bruce and Ryan (Sharlene) Lailey; seven amazing and treasured grandchildren: Rhys Lailey, Avery Kelly, Trevyn Hallson, Saige Ellese, Chyler Anne, Jaxton Douglas and Jaida Patricia; sister, Beverly (Jon) Hill; two nephews, Jeffrey (Kim), Aiden and Sara Hill and Timothy (Celene) Logan and Cameron Hill; Lifelong friends, Brian (Donna) Stefanson, Stan (Kathy) Rybuck and Don (Dianne) Stewart. Doug will be welcomed into eternity by his father, Joseph (1978), mother Thelma (1983), mother-in-law Margaret, (1992) and father-in-law, Walter (1999); special friends, Tom Lees and Bob Mackie (2008), Dick Lavers, Dennis Stefanson, Jack Hamilton and Geof Hyland (2010). A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held in the Chapel of Eden Brook Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Our family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Jose Monzon and staff at the Tom Baker, Simone Gerhards, Nurses Next Door, Purity, Charise, Vanessa, Svetlana, Tanya, Krista and Cochrane Home Care for the kind caring of Doug on his last hard journey. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met Doug in high school; but it was the weekends at West Hawk Lake that I really got to know him for his sense of humour and his zest for having fun. One Friday as I was registering for a campsite, I noticed on the registry his name and car licence no. '16K9' (I've never forgotten it), with the notation after it; "Possible trouble". Well, they had Doug wrong! He never caused trouble; he was all about having fun and making friends. Those were fun weekends! I wish I had a dollar for every time I recalled that day. And I feel so privileged to have attended the Jets-Flames game with you in March 2012, even though you were pulling for the Flames. Some guest you were that night; lol. Rest well my friend. You will be missed. - Posted by: Ed Klemm (Friend) on: Dec 13, 2013
