ROMEO DI GENOVA 1926 !2013 On December 9, 2013, Romeo passed away peacefully at the age of 87, with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his daughters Linda (Russell) Munt, Maureen (Ron) Atkinson; grandchildren, Kristen and Ryan Munt; relatives and countless friends. Romeo was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, of 54 years, by his parents Maria and Venanzio Di Genova and sister Ida. Romeo was born and raised in Winnipeg on July 18, 1926 and was employed with CNR as a carman until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed many years of square and round dancing, golfing, bowling, playing cards, Sudoku puzzles, watching sports and also was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Jets. Romeo married Lorraine Hofley on July 4, 1950 and together they raised their family in East Kildonan. We lost mom eight years ago and dad missed her terribly. We take great comfort in knowing they are together again. Family meant everything to Romeo and he was a devoted husband, father and papa. He dearly loved his grandchildren and was very proud of their achievements. Romeo was very fortunate to enjoy many wonderful friendships in his life, which he deeply cherished. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the compassionate and caring staff of CancerCare and Health Sciences Centre, as well as to Dr. J. Francois. A funeral service and celebration of Romeo's life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Blahuta, Alan Archer, Bill Norton, Chris Holland, Sean Edwards and Glen Kolida. Flowers gratefully declined, donations can be made in Romeo's memory to a charity of one's choice. "Dad was a true gentleman who will always be remembered for his kind-hearted nature, his grateful attitude and his love for his family." Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Romeo's passing. I was just reminiscing about him on Saturday wondering how he was doing. I was Lorraine's nurse and got to know them both very well. After Lorraine's passing, Romeo met my co-worker and I for lunch. We talked about his family, trips and dancing. We lost touch when he was ready to let us go after Lorraine. He was a wonderful, kind man and I am so happy he and Lorraine will be back together dancing in heaven. God Bless you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Lori Santoro (Friend, CancerCare Nurse) on: Dec 19, 2013

  • To Linda and Family, At this very difficult time, please accept our heartfelt condolences. We pray that you will find comfort in the memories you share of your father. With sympathy, The Executive and Staff of M&M Meat Shops - Posted by: M&M Meat Shops () on: Dec 17, 2013

  • We became friends with Romeo and Lorraine when they joined our Belgetoba Dance Club in the fine art of pattern and line dancing. Smooth and elegant on the dance floor, they created a supernova of famous eye candy for all in attendance. Romeo was an expert leading man. He impressed us with his chivalrous conduct, positive attitude, and helpfulness. We will miss the special occasion telephone conversations. Our sincere sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Romeo & Isabelle Choquette (Friends and dancers) on: Dec 16, 2013

  • We are sorry to learn about the loss of your father. We got to know your parents, Romeo and Lorraine, at a square dance club in the early 1980's. We will definitely miss their presence in our midst. We are also sorry that we are unable to be present at today's memorial service for your dad as both of us have colds that we are sure you would not wish to have for the upcoming Christmas season. Our heartfelt sympathies to both of you: Linda Munt and Maureen Atkinson and your families on the loss of your dad, especially, at this time of year. God Bless you and your families. - Posted by: John and Lorraine Kozera (Square and Round Dance Friends) on: Dec 16, 2013

  • Romeo and Lorraine were dear friends that we knew from the square and round dance world and also from St. Alphonsus church. Romeo and Lorraine were excellent and elegant dancers who later in their dance career joined our dance club, Hal-Mar Rounds, until Lorraine's passing. Romeo returned to dance in the club with Susan Tighe. Our sincere condolences to the family. Romeo, as Lorraine, will be missed for his charm, grace and kind heart. Yes, he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Hal & Marilyn Studholme - Posted by: Hal & Marilyn Studholme (Friends and dancers) on: Dec 15, 2013
