MARGARET SOLAR It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Solar announces her passing on December 3, 2013. Margaret was born on November 15, 1921 on the family farm near Sifton, Manitoba. She graduated from Wycliffe High School in Sifton, Manitoba. She moved to Toronto, Ontario and worked in a factory where military equipment was produced. After a few years, she returned to Manitoba and pursued a career in nursing. She graduated as a psychiatric nurse from the Selkirk Mental Hospital and continued her education as a registered nurse graduating from the Dauphin General Hospital in 1955. In her late 20's, she left for Vancouver, BC, where she spent the rest of her career working as a medical/surgical nurse, after which time she became a nursing supervisor. Margaret was a conscientious and dedicated nurse pursuing her interest in medicine. Margaret retired in 1981 after being employed at Vancouver General Hospital for 27 years. Her caring nature and ambition helped many people she encountered. Margaret retired from nursing in the late 1980s. She then pursued her love of children by volunteering as a child supervisor with the Vancouver School District. After she retired, she moved to New Westminster, BC. She was a member of the Anglican Church and sang in the choir. Family was important to her with whom she visited at every opportunity. Margaret loved to travel, the theatre and musical performances. In 2005 she suffered a stroke which left her in need of assisted living at which time she moved to The Terraces on 7th Avenue in Vancouver. As her illness progressed and she required additional care, she moved to Louis Brier Home and Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are two brothers; Lawrence (Betty) Kelowna, BC; Donald of Mississauga, ON; sister Helen Welham of Selkirk, MB; sister-in-law Mary Solar of Winnipeg, MB and numerous nieces and nephews.
