Date of Passing: Dec 01, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA KATHLEEN GREENE (nee DEAN) 1925 - 2013 We are sad to announce the passing of Sylvia Greene on December 1, 2013 in Fort St. John, BC. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and matriarch of a large clan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years Leslie, infant daughter Jennifer, her parents Arthur and Kathleen Dean, brothers Desmond and George, in-laws Frances and James Gaw, Charles and Joyce Greene, and Hannah Greene. She is survived by her brothers Denis (Barbara) and Vernon (Margery), brother-in-law Mervyn (Lorraine), her daughter Sharon McKinney (James), her sons David (Helena) and Gregory (Eva), adopted daughter Bev Wilson (Arnie), special niece Muriel Hogue (Alain), as well as numerous other nephews and nieces, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. We are also grateful to her companion, Bill Muir, who gave her great joy in her last years. Sylvia was born in Thornton-Heath, Croydon, England, where she enjoyed an idyllic childhood with her family. It was during the war years in London where she began the dance of her life with Les in 1945. A war bride, she and baby David made the dreadful Atlantic crossing in 1946 and started her Canadian life in Emerson, MB. Being the wife of a military officer, they accumulated addresses and a host of lifelong friends wherever they went. Our lady of the roses had a bottomless ability to love and she opened her arms to life and all she met. She made everyday events into occasions and occasions into parties, be it at the mess or a birthday at home. Her children and family were the core of her life and she would do anything she could to help them. Though plagued with a life of medical strife, she had an unbelievable will to carry on with a smile. We want to thank all the various doctors, nurses and care givers who have enabled her to give us many more years. Especial thanks to Dr. Howard in Comox, BC and to Dr. Temple and the staff of the hospital at Ft. St. John, BC. A cremation has taken place but a celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2014 when she will once again join her Les at Pink Mountain, BC.
