JERRY TOMANEK On December 13, 2013, at The Residence at Clayton Heights in Surrey, BC, Jerry passed away peacefully, at the age of 83. Born in Winnipeg, he was the eldest son of John and Mary Tomanek. He married his high school sweetheart, Valerie (nee Prochera). Val and Jerry opened a grocery store in Winnipeg. They had five sons, Richard (Lily), Paul, Robert (Alma), Doug (Bev) and Jeff (Angela). He was a grandfather to 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jerry and Val moved to Calgary in 1967, where he began his home building career and then moved on to Edmonton, and then finally settling down into White Rock, BC as a premium home builder. He lost his wife, Valerie, in 1986, at the age of 54, after a long battle with cancer. He later married longtime friend, Sally Hewitt, and was a stepfather to Tawnya and Cindy. Sally lost her battle with cancer at the age of 54. Jerry was also predeceased by his son Robert, brother John and his parents, John and Mary. Jerry will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sons and their families, sister-in-law Linda and family, numerous family and friends in Winnipeg (Slivinski's and Prochera's) and in Nelson, BC, the Gemzik's. He will also be fondly remembered by his special friend, Janeanne, with whom he enjoyed warm winters in Mesa. As per Jerry's request, there will be a cremation and a private graveside ceremony at a later date.
