As his father was an army doctor, the family was posted across Canada until settling in Selkirk, MB and eventually Winnipeg. Peter attended St. John's Ravens Court School. He was a master cadet with the PPCLI throughout the school years. After graduation, he won a scholarship to attend MIT in Boston where he studied engineering. At MIT, he worked on the creation of an artificial heart. He returned to Winnipeg and enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine through the ROTP at the University of Winnipeg and graduated in 1969. He was then posted to Cyprus with the Canadian Peacekeeping Forces. After serving in Cyprus, he was posted to CFB Cold Lake, AB. Returning to civilian life, he set up a private practice in Gimli, MB. It was there that he met the love of his life, Judy, who was an RN at the hospital. They married on September 24, 1977. The family moved to Manning, AB, in 1981 and relocated to Lac La Biche, AB, in 1983. He loved his work and continually took courses to improve his medical abilities, such as performing caesarian sections. He was instrumental in setting up air medical evacuations in northern Alberta. Peter was an outstanding doctor, and received many prestigious awards / recognition: *1992-1998: Certificate of Merit as Physician Consultant, Emergency Health Services and Medical Director of Alberta Air Ambulance Dispatch. *1996: Premier's Award of Excellence to Emergency Health Services Branch. *1998-2001: Director of the Alberta Medical Association. *1998-2001: Chair of the coordinating committee of RPAP. *2008: Member Emeritus of the Alberta Medical Association *2009: Honorary Membership in the Canadian Medical Association. After some years, he left the CCHC and opened up his private practice once again, where he focused on obstetrics and young families. He continued to serve with RPAP to the present, and enjoyed leading and guiding new physicians as a preceptor of medical students with the goal of improving and increasing health care in the rural communities. He joined Alberta Health Services as Medical Director, North Community and Rural. He was also Medical Director for North Aboriginal Health. He worked as an advisor with the Province of Alberta for the creation of Primary Care Networks, and was lead physician in bringing this to Grande Prairie. Peter lived life to the fullest, and made many friends and touched many lives throughout his life. He was a dedicated physician, and gave 100% effort to anything he tackled. He sincerely cared about the welfare of his patients and thoroughly enjoyed his work as a physician and consultant. As a family man, he was loved beyond measure as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His sudden passing has left a palpable hole in our hearts. Peter was an avid traveller, and loved spending time with his family and friends, whether it was camping, fishing, or going on cruises. For their 25th anniversary, he and Judy took the family on a memorable Caribbean cruise. He also fulfilled his dream of visiting South America with his wife and dear friends. He was so proud of his children, and loved them beyond measure. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help them. I worked with Dr. Lindsay for a few years and he was such a knowledgeable, professional, straight to the point, caring doctor. He also saved my life when I had a rather eventful delivery of my daughter. No words can express the loss I felt once I learned of his passing, the world is dimmer without him. His wife Judy and family were the center of his universe and I can't imagine their pain. Rest in Peace Peter, God Bless you and your family! - Posted by: Lorraine Brownlee (Employee) on: Jan 13, 2020

We moved to G.P. in 2007 and I was already 4 months pregnant when Dr. Lindsay was recommended to me. I count my blessings that he took me on as a patient during my pregnancy. The day my son was born, I was not fully dilated when my son started to push through. As his heart rate began to decline rapidly when he couldn't get out, Dr. Lindsay rushed in and made a cut to get him out and take care of him. For an older doctor, he moved quickly and without hesitation. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing and wish more people could have been blessed to have him as their doctor. - Posted by: Coreen Calkins (Patient) on: Nov 04, 2015

I saw him 2 days before he died. I went in for my check up on my pregnancy. I still think about him today because he was my doctor and I was happy with him as my doctor. When I woke up to read on Facebook he had died I was so confused I thought no that is not true.. I just saw him... And then I cried and cried. I still feel for his family. Life goes on but that doesn't make it easy... Thinking of his family. He is still missed by his patients. Rip doctor Lindsay. - Posted by: () on: Jul 13, 2015

He was my doctor 8 years ago and took amazing care of me and my unborn baby girl. He was an awesome doctor. If it was not for him and all the help he and Judy gave me and my baby girl Havana I would not have had such a great start! I was soo sad to find this out. I still brag to this day what an awesome doctor I had!!! RIP you're missed by sooo many! - Posted by: Lindsy Beliveau () on: Aug 10, 2014

I worked for Dr. Lindsay at his clinic in Lac La Biche where I found him to be an excellent teacher and mentor. His encouragement gave me the impetus to further my medical education and work with compassion and help patients keep their dignity. I have a thirst for knowledge and embrace the challenges that present with the unique factors each person presents with. His contribution to the challenges and rewards of rural medicine are an example of the fulfillment of the Hippocratic oath. - Posted by: Christine Olsen (Former medical assistant at the LLB Clinic) on: Dec 28, 2013

Others will properly acknowledge Dr. Peter Lindsay and all his contributions as a valued physician, respected medical leader, and a patient/family advocate. Peter will also be remembered for his passion for rural medicine and rural medical education and especially his advocacy for GPs with additional competencies. He was an exemplary RPAP board member and board chair. His time with RPAP spanned many years over two appointments. I shall personally miss his wise counsel as board chair and as a friend. My condolences to his wife Judy and his family. - Posted by: David Kay, Executive Director, Alberta RPAP (co-health care professional) on: Dec 26, 2013

Dr. Lindsay took our family on as patients when his wonderful wife Judy found out we didn't have a family doctor. He was very kind and patient every time I saw him. He's stuck by me through an undiagnosed chronic condition and was willing to send me to any specialist and send me for any test possible. Judy and he always made our family feel special and cared for when we visited their office. You will be greatly missed Peter. My love and condolences to you Judy and your family. - Posted by: Coralie Haman (Patient ) on: Dec 23, 2013

Dr Lindsay saved my life and the life of my daughters. My baby was very breeched and there was no way I could have given birth. The staff at the hospital were going to make me try to born her. I demanded they call Dr Lindsay. He was there in minutes. Had an ultrasound perfomed right away and made it well known there was no way we would make it through it. He had me in for an emergeny C section right away. We thought the world of him. Great man and amazing talented Doctor. RIP Dr Lindsay! - Posted by: Trisha (Patient) on: Dec 23, 2013

Dr. Lindsay was the best doctor I ever had. He took me on as a patient alothough I couldn't have kids and his practice was mainly commited to young families. I heard about Dr. Lindsay from my daughter Lindsay as he was her physician for her pre-natal visits for her first baby. I live in Ontario and was always comforted that she had such a caring and experienced doctor. When Lindsay called me feeling anxious, I knew that after seeing Dr. Lindsay, she would be calm and at peace. She trusted that he cared about her and her baby's well being and looked forward to him guilding her through the delivery. Like my daughter, your community is at a loss, but for the family it is the greatest loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. - Posted by: Linda Woodbeck (Mother of his patient Lindsay who will give birth to her first child soon) on: Dec 21, 2013

Not only did Peter distinguish himself later in life, he did so at SJR as well. In the days before Science Fairs, he showed an advanced knowledge of Science and the processes connected to it. His leadership with the Cadet Corps was precise and followed the system in place then to a "T". Condolences to his family. Pete made positive changes to the world of Health Care that will live long. - Posted by: Allan Tucker (school acquaintance) on: Dec 21, 2013
