GEORGE BRUCE
Born: Feb 07, 1936
Date of Passing: Dec 14, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE BRUCE With heavy hearts, we must announce the sudden passing of George Bruce on Saturday, December 14, 2013. George was born on February 7, 1936 in Camper, Manitoba, and grew up to work and raise a family in Winnipeg. Mourning his loss are his children, Diana King (Mike), Linda Bruce, Glenn Bruce, Heather Lanthier (James), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his sisters Emily Morrissette, Dorothy Dunsmore, many extended family members, and all the many friends he made along the way. He worked in the plumbing industry for most of his life and was proud of a successful career working at the University of Manitoba. George enjoyed his retirement years living in a few small towns in Manitoba but his love for the Pembina Valley landed him in La Riviere for his best and last few years. He would often call his family in Winnipeg to talk about how wonderful everything was growing in the garden and how nice it was to be living in "paradise". Per George's request, a funeral service will not be held and his ashes will be buried on a sunny day in La Riviere.

Today I saw a Blue Jay sitting in a pine tree and I wanted to call my dad to talk about it. I miss him so very much! We could talk for hours about everything and anything-from the simple, yet beautiful things in life, to politics and finance. I always felt grounded and recharged after visiting with him as he reminded me of who I was and where I came from. I will carry his life lessons with me forever! My heart has a hole in it now that he's gone! - Posted by: Heather Lanthier (youngest Daughter) on: Jan 09, 2014

Dad was not a sentimental type of person. He would call you on your B.S. He could be cranky and out of sorts, he could also be hilarious and wise. He wasn't perfect but he was perfect at being who he was, and that was a person who was true to himself to the end. He was for us a person of integrity, grit and stubborn to no end, but if you knew him like we did you also had a deep respect for him. We will miss our chats with him on the phone! Miss you dad! Love from Diana and Mike - Posted by: Diana King (eldest daughter) on: Jan 08, 2014

I am so glad I found George's obituary, so I could learn more about him and his family. The last time I chatted with him in my store, he told about his Family plans for Christmas. I was so shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden passing, and how much his loss would mean for his Family. I am the Pembina Co-op Store Manager in Manitou, and me and my Staff have had the fortune to see and visit with George on a weekly basis since he moved to LaRiviere. We all enjoyed his banter, his teasing, and his friendly ways. We already miss him, and he will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Wilf Klippenstein (Friend, My Favourite Customer) on: Dec 29, 2013

He was your dad, and he shaped who you are.... gave you his love... taught you what he knew... You'll always honour him in the way you live your life and in your heart with your lasting memories. This is from a card a special person sent to me, sums it up perfectly. - Posted by: Linda Bruce (Daughter) on: Dec 24, 2013

Grandpa, I am so proud to have had you in my life, and know that you are now amongst the many who have passed who are watching over the Earth with love and harmony in your heart. I recall many beautiful memories shared with you, your heart was so full of love. As a child Daniel made it a great adventure to ride our bicycles out to visit you in the country. It was quite a ride for our little legs ;) but we did it with great joy and determination, as we knew who was waiting for us at the end of our arduous journey. As a young woman, I recall making a trip from Saskatchewan to your home, I was a troubled teen at the time, and you accepted me unconditionally. This will forever stay with me and will serve future generations, as it is my belief through seeing your example that love should always be given without conditions. I shall see you in the great beyond Grandpa! Love and light. Denise. - Posted by: Denise Pothier Fortin (Grandaughter) on: Dec 22, 2013

Often had talks with George when he was in his garden which was lots and enjoyed the talks with him. At hall meetings he was not afraid to stand up and say what was on his mind. Sorry for your loss to Family and his friends - Posted by: Glen Smih (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2013
