WILLIAM (BIFF) FLISS
Born: Jul 22, 1928
Date of Passing: Dec 21, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BIFF) FLISS July 22, 1928 - December 21, 2013 Peacefully on December 21, 2013, Biff passed away at Middlechurch Personal Care Home at the age of 85. Biff will be greatly missed by his two children, son Clark (Aji), stepgrandchildren Brennan and Lindsey, and daughter Allison Farbiak (Ed); many nieces and nephews and special nephew Glenn Olnick (Wynne) and family. Biff was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eve, in 1994; father John and mother Rose; sisters Kay Gildert (Thomas), Emma Olnick (Martin) and Nancy Lobay (Stanley). Biff was born and schooled in East Kildonan. He excelled in sports, especially football. In 1949 - 1951 he was selected to play with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (#64) as a full back. In 1952 he played with the Norwood/St. Boniface Legionaries, who went on to be inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Football and the Blue Bombers were his passion, watching every game and season he could. In 1952 he married Eve and lived in Elmwood and then East Kildonan. They spent most of their summers at their cottage at Hillside Beach. Biff and Eve also loved to travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for many years to escape the winter cold. Dad's passion was carpentry. He built many things, but his greatest accomplishment was building the family cottage at Hillside Beach. He and Eve enjoyed the special times at the lake with family and friends. He was a gentle giant who was always there to help out when needed. Biff retired from Controlled Environments in 1992 where he worked in the Refrigeration Dept. and then as Shop Foreman. Biff's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and nurses (both past and present) on B1 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for all their care over the years and especially in his final hours. He treasured you all and appreciated your friendship. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Winnipeg, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 Cropo Funeral Chapel 204-586-8044

Although I've only worked at MC Home 3 years, they have been the best of my nursing career largely due to knowing this dear, sweet man Biff. We bonded at first due to our fierce passion for our Blue & Gold but the friendship grew and I so looked forward to visiting him after work hours to share our thoughts on "why" we lost... sigh yet another game or to share a bag of diabetic peppermints. How he loved his candy! Rest easy, Biff. You are loved & forever missed. Always remembered. WBB #64 - Posted by: (nurse) on: Dec 28, 2013

I told him time to time that they need u on the Blue and Gold to show them how to play, he laughed. Rest in peace now ur in no more pain - Posted by: unknown (health care provider ) on: Dec 24, 2013

He was a great man. Always noticed if I wasn't there and would ask where I was. If he saw me in the morning he'd want me to do his a.m. care. He would always notice and comment on my new scrub top. I looked forward to seeing him every morning and am very sad that he has passed. I will miss my biffaroni as I called him. - Posted by: Jennifer (Hack at nursing home he lived at) on: Dec 23, 2013
