Condolences & Memories (30 entries)

  • Our deepest condolences to Ernie's family and friends. - Posted by: Boulet Sheet Metal Ltd. (Business Associate) on: Jan 02, 2014

  • First met Ernie back in the 1970s when he hung out shingle with Ron Pidwerbeski and started design four I and ccc. A real visonary and first class guy. Last saw him a few weeks ago when he toured us through his two condos on Jessie street (his residence). Totally shocked to read the announcement. Yaron keep up altros. He taught you well. - Posted by: ray knowles (friend) on: Jan 01, 2014

  • No wonder I didn't get a response when I texted Ernie on the 23rd, just before Christmas. Wow, what a shock to hear that Ernie passed away. He looked extremely well physically and his vision was second to none. Ernie lived on the main floor and I was on the second floor until Ernie thought he should move next door. He was still close and I was looking forward to spending some good times discussing life and learning more about him. Ernie was always willing to share his life, vision and be a team player. Ernie, we will have to have our discussions later. This is a good life lesson for me, don't live in regret. Take time for relationships. When it's all over, our relationships continue to live on. Ernie seemed to be able to maximize each moment and make room in his heart for many individuals. Yaron, I am sure you will have many sad moments when you will want to run things by your dad and friend. God bless you as you continue your dad's vision. My condolences - Posted by: Wayne (Neighbour) on: Dec 30, 2013

  • When I looked at the call display, I immediately thought "Ernie is calling with his usual Christmas wishes", but it was my cousin telling me that my uncle was not with us anymore. Ernie was always calling out of the blue to tell me what was going on in his life and ask about what we were doing. You never knew when he was going to be calling, but you knew he would. He lived with our family in Saskatoon when he was going to University and I remember many good times with him, but one memory never goes. He was always trying to "educate" me on "the good life" He brought home a 45 one day (that is a record to those not in the know). The title was "Walk on the Wild Side" He played it over and over and I still have it to this day. He never got me out of my rural lifestyle, but I loved him anyway. It was a standing joke between us. Ernie always walked on the wild side and he was very happy doing it. I am going to miss those calls or the quick visits when he was going through on to some new venture that he was excited about. I know that he will be greatly missed by Yaron and Micah but they also will have some great memories of him to store away and pull out anytime they need to have him close. I will miss you Ernie, always. - Posted by: Darlene Friesen (Niece) on: Dec 29, 2013

  • It seems it was just yesterday we were all sitting at Nibblers together, but that's the kind of person Ernie was. Every memory with him is so vibrant and life filled. He touched so much, so many and his impact is so far reaching. The world was his canvas and we all got to live in it. We (like so many) were blessed with his friendship and creative vision. Our condolences with deepest sympathy. - Posted by: Zsolt and Robyn Egey-Samu (friend/client) on: Dec 29, 2013

  • Ernie was a wonderful friend and supporter of Belize. San Pedro won't be the same without his smile and attitude. Without his help and support we wouldn't be where we are today. - Posted by: Paul and Karol Kammeyer (friend) on: Dec 28, 2013

  • Ernie has been a friend for almost 40 years - contributing his talent and energy to the redevelopment of Winnipeg's Chinatown. Throughout the years, Ernie has been a tireless supporter/contributor and team player in/for numerous Business and Community initiatives. So many will miss him immensely....but he leaves behind his passion, drive and entrepreneurial spirit for all of us to admire and to continue. - Posted by: Ken S. Wong (Friend & Associate) on: Dec 28, 2013

  • Ernie's kind heart took me in to his company 10 years ago, teaching and mentoring me as if I were one of his own. Knowing Ernie for all these years, he has done the same for most people coming into his business. I and I'm sure all of his students / apprentices feel the same heart break, when we learned of his passing. I never thought I would hear of this day, but it's here, and you will always be remembered with a big smile and large heart. My condolences to Yaron and Micah, and family. - Posted by: Rashaad Insanali (Student / Jr. Apprentice,) on: Dec 24, 2013

  • It is always sad when you hear of some one passing, but when some one so close and a long time friend depart, it is devastating. ERNIE was always there to help to talk to plan. He was full of life, after his trip to Italy he was so eager to complete the hotel project in Belize, but still had time to console me with my medical condition. He has been a close friend for over 20 years, I will miss him very much, REST IN PEACE ERNIE. • I'm so sorry to hear this tragic news… Ernie's last words to me we're of complete and utter excitement, pertaining to future projects for the Corydon Biz Zone. He was also wanting to purchase some of my art for his hotel in Belize …. He was always a fan of art of all kinds! Now he's the architect of the angels… my deepest sympathy to all of the ones who will now be left with an empty room in their hearts… Michel - Posted by: Michel Saint Hilaire (co-worker on diverse artistic projects for Corydon Biz) on: Dec 23, 2013

  • I met Ernie through work just over two years ago. He was so vibrant and engaging. His death is a loss and he will be missed. - Posted by: Michelle Smetana () on: Dec 23, 2013

  • Ernie was my mentor after University. In addition I was employed by him in the early years of his and my career. In those early days Ernie was changing the landscape of Winnipeg Architecture. Focus was on people and lifestyle. His designs injected scale and interest while maintaining the integrity of structure and materials, much lacking today. Ernie was fearless in creating new looks and using unconventional materials. Some of his work is seen throughout Winnipeg and in many other places in the world. Some notable ones in Winnipeg: Tuxedo Estates Tudor Village, Tuxedo Village and Vialoux village. Osborn Village Commercial (Omas and the like) Gentrification of Corydon Residential Neighbourhood. Infill Condos and Renovations. I will personally miss him a great deal and so will a lot of other people and places he touched. He left us too soon, never had time to retire and left a lot of his work for us to continue. RIP - Posted by: LANNY SILVER (FRIEND & COLLEAGUE) on: Dec 23, 2013

  • I heard about the loss of my Dear friend Ernie today. We were two entrepreneurs who believed in each other during challenges with laughter hope and a love of life and what's to come. So in the ultimate destination in life Ernie again has made it there before me, as I know he is in Heaven with all the other Angels from his life. May all the family especially Yaron and Micah feel Ernie's spirit wrapped around them at this difficult and sad time. In loving memory of my Dear friend and with Sincerest Sympathy, Paul & Siquilla Dillon - Posted by: Paul Dillon (Friend and Business associates ) on: Dec 23, 2013
