NORA MAY VOGEL May 23, 1920 !December 25, 2013 Nora passed away peacefully Christmas night at Brentwood Care Centre, Calgary, AB. She is now reunited with the love of her life Dr. Garson N. Nora and Garson made family life a priority raising four children, Dr. Judy Vogel (Dr. Harvey Giesbrecht) Montreal, PQ, Paul Vogel (Joan) Ilderton, ON, Dr. Ellen Vogel (Dr. Bill Muirhead) Whitby, ON, and Beth Vogel (Norm Harburn) Calgary, AB. She is survived by sister Vera Pybus; brother Sam (Ethel) Blackwell; her grandchildren, Julia (Tim), Brennan (Myriam), Nathaniel, Maia (Everett), Cameron, and Miriam; and great-grandchildren Teo, Jonah, Aneya, and Serena. Nora and Garson's home always had a welcome mat by the front door for the many foreign diplomats he met in his role as Chief Commissioner with the Canadian Wheat Board. The children grew up embracing diversity and truly committed to service. With an undergraduate degree in Home Economics (University of Manitoba) and the completion of a dietetic internship (SickKids in Toronto), Nora returned to school at mid-life, enrolling in many undergraduate courses at the University of Winnipeg. Nora continued her supportive role for Garson's career when they moved to Rome in 1977 where he assumed the position of Executive Director of the World Food Programme with the United Nations. While working overseas, Garson and Nora holidayed every summer at the much loved family cottage at West Hawk Lake.
