KENNETH WAYNE CLAPHAM
Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH WAYNE CLAPHAM It is with deep sadness that the Clapham family announces the sudden but peaceful passing at home of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, loyal and faithful friend Ken on December 22, 2013. Ken was born in Winnipeg on February 8, 1949. Ken will be deeply missed and remembered with cherished memories by his loving wife Lorraine, son Michael (Cathy), daughter Lisa (Eric), grandson Andrew and granddaughter Mackenzie, sister Beverley, brother Bruce (Joyce), brother Brian (Bobbie), stepmother Eleanor, nieces and nephews as well as many long-time friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his mother Edna, father Norman, brother Dave, sister-in-law Barbara, and his mother-in-law Erma. Ken attended Issac Brock and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He excelled in school and in sports (favourites being curling and golfing) and at the age of 18 won the Canadian Teenage Safe Driving Championships. Ken's work career spanned over 43 years in the automotive business, first as an Assistant Body Shop Manager at Kruse Auto Body and then as an Assistant Body Shop Manager at Pembina Dodge Chrysler until 2010. Ken's early years were spent at the family cottage in Victoria Beach and then summers in Lac du Bonnet. For the past 25 years, Ken spent his weekends and vacations with his wife Lorraine sharing their dream home in Silver Harbour, Arnes. In October 2012, Ken and Lorraine transitioned to living in Silver Harbour full time. Over the years many wonderful memories were made and shared with both their family and "Lake" family. Ken's strength, spirit and determination never faltered during his struggle with C.O.P.D. and when he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease) in February 2012. During this time Ken always maintained his wonderful sense of humour and that twinkle in his eye. We would like to thank all of our family and friends for their constant love and support: Dr. Alan Casey and his team at the ALS Motor Neuron Clinic, Deer Lodge Centre; Dianna Rasmussen, Executive Director of the ALS Society; Dr. Homik, Dr. Nepon, Dr. S. V. Patel; the Arborg & District Home Care Program, and especially our Angel, Shelley. The family would also like to thank the Gimli Paramedics and the Arborg RCMP Detachment for their care and compassion shown to Ken and family during this difficult time. According to Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his Life will take place on: Friday, January 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery), with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken's memory to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 493 Madison St., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1J2; Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, and the Gimli Humane Society, P.O Box 1999, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. Dear Lorraine, family & the Luckster. My heart aches for you all. Ken was such a gentle man. I will sure miss his wonderful breakfasts of over easy eggs, bacon and toast. A new star is glowing in the heavens. A quote from "The Next Place" by Warren Hanson "I will travel empty-handed. There is not a single thing I have collected in my life that I would ever want to bring except..... the love of those who loved me, and the warmth of those who cared. The happiness and memories and magic that we shared." - Posted by: Dianne McShane (Long time friend) on: Jan 08, 2014

Lorraine, Lisa and Ken's friends and family, Peer and I were shocked to hear of Ken's abrupt passing. ALS is an awful disease and I am glad he is free of suffering. This does not make it easier nor will it make him any less missed and certainly not forgotten. I was blessed with being able to meet him and spend time during his visit to Lisa's in the States. He was a joy to be with and that twinkle is undeniable. Our hearts are with you my friends, Becky & Peer - Posted by: Becky Wilson and Peer Butschkau (Friends of Daughter, Lisa) on: Jan 05, 2014
