E. ISABEL TURNER 97 and one half years! It is with a mix of deep gratitude and sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel Turner on December 21, 2013. Isabel lived a long life and was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Ada Denson, her brother Gordon Denson, her sister Peggy Allan and finally the love of her life - Richard (Dick) Turner. Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory is her daughter Judy Murphy and her son-in-law Gordon (Mickey) Murphy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret (Meg) Denson of Victoria, BC, niece Bonnie-Lynn Denson, nephew Richard (Sandy) Denson (Elvy) and their son Albert, cousin Esther Peary and her longtime friend Kay Wall. Isabel and Dick had a wonderful marriage; they personified love and devotion. She worked for the Bank of Montreal in St. John's, Newfoundland and later retired from the Bannerman and Main branch in Winnipeg. Although she enjoyed her career, family always came first. She always ensured that she devoted time to care for her mother, her husband and her daughter. She was so helpful to Judy and Mickey by cooking, running errands and just general "pitching in" to help wherever she could. After retirement, Isabel and Dick enjoyed numerous senior activities together such as lawn bowling, bowling and events at MacBeth House and Bleak House. After Dick's sudden passing in 1988, she enjoyed travelling with Judy and Mickey on various cruises and to warm weather destinations. All holidays and celebrations were shared with Mickey's family as well. For the past nine years, she enjoyed the benefit of two residences - one in Winnipeg and the other in Gimli. She loved both her home and the country life. There are so many people to thank who contributed to her well being. Kay, Esther, Kathy and Jan who visited her regularly. Bernice who stayed with Isabel when needed. The Murphys who adopted her into the family. Linda and Bob who were so available to help when needed. Brenda and the Gimli homecare team for all of their help and kindness over the past four years. Finally, the outstanding and very compassionate and caring staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli. At Isabel's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli. Isabel was never ill, never had surgery, never complained, kept her sense of humour and passed peacefully. She was a joy and for that we will be eternally grateful. "Love is something you do" - Isabel Turner

  • Dear Judy and Mickey, Nicole and I were saddened by the news of Isabel’s passing. I recall her ‘bonne humeur’ and the way she always asked one the right question about life and work, and how she would encourage one to never give up! You have both loved her dearly and she will always be with you…even when you visit us again at our cottage! Take good care my friends, Michel - Posted by: Michel V. CHEFF (friend) on: Dec 30, 2013

  • Isabel was a very determined person which I believe added to her long life. She was totally dedicated to her family and rarely said a critical word. She loved dogs and enjoyed petting Lady. She also loved chocolates and goodies in her later years. It was fun to sneak her a treat past the " candy" police Mickey and Judy. It was great to have her be part of many birthday and holiday celebrations! I will remember when she received her slippers and bed jacket rubbing the soft fabric and so happy that she had soooo many Christmas presents. She will be missed. - Posted by: Deb Murphy-Macdonald (sister-in-law) on: Dec 28, 2013

  • I will be forever thankful to your mom for introducing me to onion dip at one of our sleepovers. Now a staple at every family get together. Your mom was such a warm and friendly person. We had so many lovely visits at Safeway and IGA. LOL! She loved preparing meals for you and Mickey. You all looked after each other. It is that time for all of us now. Just hold onto all the great memories. - Posted by: Erica Schultz (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2013
