JOHN BAPTISTA CAVA January 5, 1938 - December 25, 2013 Peacefully, with family by his side, on Christmas day 2013 John passed away at Grace Hospital. John was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Naomi, his brothers Raymond and Joseph, and his youngest son Brian. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Fran, his daughter Tanis (Thom) Seldrick, granddaughter Meagan (Tommy) and great-granddaughters Kensey and Kodee, daughter-in-law Kathy Cava, granddaughters Kaitlyn, his daughter Michele (Bret) Goddard, granddaughters Alysha and Ashley, his son Mike (Sue) and granddaughter Jill. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Joan Cava, nieces Connie and Sue (Colin) Cava-Salie along with their children Robyn-Rae and Cavan, as well as the Slater Family Mike, Carl and Elsa, Wade and Carol and Vivian Johnson. John was employed with CN Rail as a carman at Fort Rouge Shops and Symington Yard for 38 years. He enjoyed early retirement, spending the first four months sailing with Thom, Tanis and Meagan out of Miami Beach, Florida. After his winter holiday he waited for the snow to melt and he was off to the cottage which he would enjoy until October. He loved holiday adventures with his sons Mike and Brian, checking out the mountain glaciers, wineries and orchards, or trips to Thunder Bay or exploring Vancouver with Michele and Bret. We would like to thank our wonderful family and friends who have helped us through some very difficult times over the past five years. Our hearts will be lighter knowing that John's pain and suffering is now over. A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB with reception to follow. • My sincere condolences to John's family. Growing up John and Fran were good friends and neighbours to my parents, Frank and Belle Baily, and many happy times were shared with the four of them. I used to hear about his famous meatballs that were served during the holiday season. My last memory of John was at Lester Beach when he and Bill Eisler dropped by to help me with a leaky roof. That was John: always helpful, cheerful and willing to lend a hand. - Posted by: Georgina Baily Burstow (Neighbour) on: Jan 01, 2014

  • My condolences to his family; Mr. Cava was alway's visiting my Dad, Mr. Eisler, and Mr. Bailey having a coffee with a smile on his face and a story to tell. His meatballs at Christmas were legendary and enjoyed by everyone in the neighborhood. I enjoyed visiting his cabin at the lake in my youth with Brian. He will be missed by all. • His place in my heart, however broken, will always remain as large and warm as it did the day I was born. It will be hard to go on knowing he's no longer with us but I will take peace in knowing he's safe now. His memory, traditions and love will carry on through his family. Only gone, not forgotten. - Posted by: Meagan (Granddaughter ) on: Dec 30, 2013
