JOYCE MCTAVISH (PALMER) Suddenly on December 23, 2013 Joyce passed away. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her mother and father, William and Amy Palmer, her sisters Norma, Margie, and Audrey, and her brothers Cyril and George. Left to mourn are her sons Billy, Robbie and Jimmy; daughter Tammy (Bryan); grandchildren Chris (Lorissa), John, Aimee (James), Bonnie, Curtis, Ian, BJ, Dylan, Brian, and Billie, and her gang of Greats, Kobie, Madisyn, Layla, Bostyn, Ryleigh, and Rylan. Also left to mourn are her sister Margaret, her many nieces, and nephews and friends, especially Alma French and Marie Wilmont. Joyce, a Winnipeg girl, was born September 16, 1931 at 247 Harbison Ave. in Elmwood, one of seven siblings growing up in a fun, busy, loving and ever renovated three bedroom house. Through her brother Cyril, she met the love of her life, Jim McTavish. Being the wife of a sailor, she and Jim raised their four children mainly in Victoria, BC, with a short posting to Halifax, NS. Upon Jim's retirement, they moved back to Winnipeg where they spent the remainder of their years. Joyce being good with numbers, took a comptometer course which lead to a job at the Nutty Club, where she worked until her marriage. Upon her return to Winnipeg she went to work for Taxation until her retirement in 1995. Joyce passed on many of her loves in life to her family and friends. She adored dogs, going to the movies, reading, crochet, board and card games, and sitting on the front steps. She enjoyed walks with her family, finding small treasures along the way in parks, back lanes and at the beach. Joyce especially loved going to Grand Beach with her nephew Tommy and all of her family. Joyce was a loving person, beloved by all her family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or to just listen if someone wanted to talk. She left a little bit of herself in everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Interment at 12:45 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. both on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue.
