LAWRENCE (LARRY) H. DYCK On the day of December 25, 2013 Lawrence H. Dyck passed away of Pneumonia suddenly at the Grace Hospital. Lawrence (Larry) Dyck (89), son of Henry and Agnes Dyck, was born August 17, 1924 in Gladstone, MB. The second oldest of seven children Larry at an early age was young, eager. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles October 14, 1941, he was soon shipped overseas as part of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion where he served as part of the 3rd Brigade, 6th British Airborne Division from April 14, 1944 to September 24, 1945. Upon returning to Manitoba and beginning his family he had many accomplishments traveling and working all across Canada. He was never described as dull to say the least. His main focus was always his family. He spent hours reminiscing and talking about family reunions, and he enjoyed the simple things like being the "traditional" cowboy gentleman that he was. He was a member of the St. James Legion and enjoyed playing Darts weekly at the Mess on the base with his wife and friends, He also would meet with Elsie and Mike S. for lunch monthly. He always appreciated the little things, and never took a moment of life for granted. Larry is predeceased by his parents Agnes and Henry, wife Eunice (Flemington) Dyck, son Steven Dyck, brothers Jack, Art, Don and Ralph, and his closest friend Cliff Bell. Larry is survived and remembered by his daughter Janice, brother Frank, sister Marlene, granddaughters Jamie, Abigayle (her husband Stephen Fitzgerald), cousin Larry Dyck, as well as many, many close nieces and nephews. He will be sincerely missed by all who loved and cared about him. His goal was to make an impact on everyone's lives that he knew and loved dearly. On behalf of his family we would like to say: Goal Achieved! No funeral arrangements will be made at this time. A wake will be held in his honour at a later date in the New Year. Please contact his daughter (Janice) for more information. "Never a horse that couldn't be rode, never a cowboy that couldn't be Throwed!"

  • He was a terrific man. I loved hearing his stories. He had a great sense of humor. Larry also made a 'mean' bloody caesar when I came to visit. I will remember him fondly as we traveled to Mexico to spend a fun filled week together along with my parents (his good friends). • Uncle Larry was a very special man and I loved him dearly! My last time seeing him was when I walked into my kitchen and he and Barrie were having a beer. After all the hugs and kisses I asked him how long he had been over. He replied with, over an hour! I looked at him and smiled and said..you better shut your car off! He always made me smile and laugh and made me so happy to be a part of his family! Hugs to all of you and thank you for sharing your dad and grandpa! - Posted by: Kate McGrath-Flemington (Niece) on: Dec 31, 2013
