Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Wayne was an impressive and talented individual who loved his family dearly. - Posted by: Dave Burrell (Friend) on: Dec 18, 2014

  • I was saddened to hear of Wayne's passing on CBC news today. Wayne and I were close friends as we were growing up in Brandon. Wayne was a budding naturalist at a very young age. We enjoyed many a day learning from Jack Lane in activities with his Birding Club projects for young boys. One project was to bring back the Blue Birds nesting project. My favourite photo was Wayne and I putting up bird house number one thousand. Wayne's friendship was appreciated as we learned about the world together. He was an eager learner destined to make many a profound contribution to everyone he came into contact with, and certainly with me. Many thanks to Wayne and to his family who welcomed me into their home. Wayne's eagerness in his interests inspired me; Particularly in music and in naturalist pursuits. It is curiously coincidental that I have recently become curious about new ideas about evolution and would have been thrilled to talk with Wayne about his book. Good-bye Wayne. God Bless. - Posted by: Bruce Peters (Boyhood friend) on: Jan 12, 2014

  • Wayne came into our bookstore and we talked about everything from poetry to his musical compositions (even his easiest were too difficult for me) to his ideas about evolution. He was very polite, intelligent and curious. We haven't seen him recently and are saddened we won't have another opportunity to talk with him. - Posted by: Bill Fugler () on: Jan 03, 2014

  • Sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. He had been a customer in my bookshop for many years, and his visits were always interesting. The breadth of his knowledge and his fervour for learning always impressed me. Although I deal in rare and collectible books, I was happy to carry in stock two of Wayne's most recent ornithological publications. I am sure his untimely passing has deprived the academic world of further contributions. - Posted by: Michael Park () on: Jan 02, 2014
