John was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Naomi, his brothers Raymond and Joseph, and his youngest son Brian. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Fran, his daughter Tanis (Thom) Sheldrick, granddaughter Meagan (Tommy) and great-granddaughters Kinsey and Kodee, daughter-in-law Kathy Cava, granddaughters Kaitlyn, his daughter Michele (Bret) Goddard, granddaughters Alysha and Ashley, his son Mike (Sue) and granddaughter Jill. John was employed with CN Rail as a carman at Fort Rouge Shops and Symington Yard for 38 years. He enjoyed early retirement, spending the first four months sailing with Thom, Tanis and Meagan out of Miami Beach, Florida. After his winter holiday he waited for the snow to melt and he was off to the cottage which he would enjoy until October. He loved holiday adventures with his sons Mike and Brian, checking out the mountain glaciers, wineries and orchards, or trips to Thunder Bay or exploring Vancouver with Michele and Bret. We would like to thank our wonderful family and friends who have helped us through some very difficult times over the past five years. Our hearts will be lighter knowing that John's pain and suffering is now over. A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB with reception to follow. It was with great sorrow and loss that I read of John's passing. John and I go back to the late 60's when I founded National Patrol Dogs of Canada Ltd. John applied for a part time job but his interest soon escalated to the point that he became a partner in the business. Our association lasted well into the 70's when John's health became an issue and on the advice of his doctor, John retired from National Patrol Dogs much to the sorrow of myself and employees. John was sorely missed. Our paths went in different directions and our association with each other came to an end. It was only after hearing of John's accident and the passing of another pioneer of National Patrol Dogs (Mervin Scott) that we were reunited for a short period of time. I have lost a dear friend and can only offer my sincere condolences to Fran and the family at this time.
