Paul never forgot where he came from and always looked forward to going back home to the valley with his brother Tom whom he loved dearly and was close to his heart. Paul was a talented musician and a seasoned guitar player who enjoyed get togethers jamming with friends and family. In the early years, he joined Local 118 Heat and Frost Insulators in Vancouver and later with Local 110 in Alberta where he worked until present. His quick wit, sense of humour, his generosity and big heart will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Paul worked at Syncrude in Fort McMurray since 2002 and will be sadly missed by his co-workers. Paul was predeceased by his parents Helen and Harry Desjarlais as well as six siblings. Paul is survived by his wife and partner of 32 years Mona (Sala); five stepchildren, Marc, Tim, Ted, Toby and Krista; ten step-grandchildren; daughter Jeanette and son Joe; their mother Barbara; five grandchildren; nine siblings; as well as many nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law Martha. I grew up knowing Paul and his brother Chuck in the 1960's since I was about 5 years old. My dad used to have the best country western live music parties around and I would be running around staying up late watching everyone having fun playing guitar singing and dancing. this was at 1206 Rochester ave, coquitlam bc in a small house, so it was always jam packed with wall to wall people. Paul would come through the front door with his guitar and his girlfriend Francis and couldn't wait to sit down and start playing. All the women always had those beehive hairdoes, cats eye glasses and sequin dresses. They were some pretty hip parties at the time and people would come to them for years. the neighbours would sit out on their porches late at night and wish that they were there to see the live music. In 1965, my mom got a brand new super 8 movie projector, the first of its kind with two bright spotlights on it and all of a sudden everyone was a movie star. Everyone was always trying to get into the picture. When the camera would zoom in on Paul, he would look up into it, start smiling and pick up the pace and put on a real show. He loved it. We still have those movies and memories. My dad Maurice and Paul were really good friends. My dad would join in playing guitar trying to be cool thinking he was really good but he could never really compete with Paul, so he would start singing really loud looking good with his Elvis Presly side burns. Ps. My mom loved Elvis so he had to have the side burns. this went on for years into the early 70's. I'm 55 years old know, doesn't feel like it. those times feel like yesterday and I'll never forget them. That's the Paul Desjarlais I knew in my life. I remember asking my dad wathing Paul play, Dad who is that guy. He proudly answered back, Thats Paul Desjarlais, he's my second or third couisin, he's pretty good isn't he. And I said, Yup! - Posted by: Richard Anthony Desjarlais (son of Maurice and Joyce Desjarlais) on: Jan 14, 2014
