OTTO DRIECHEL August 22, 1926 - January 1, 2014 Otto's family is sad to announce his unexpected death on January 1, 2014 at St. Boniface Hospital. Otto lived a full life, reaching the age of 87 years, and until the last few weeks remained very independent - in his own apartment, driving his new car, cooking, shopping, and walking many laps in the hallways each day to keep fit. He had a strong Christian faith, attended church regularly, and in later years enjoyed the Sunday TV services He enjoyed playing cards, watching golf and baseball, going for coffee with friends, and to Sals with family. Otto liked to hear a good story or joke, and it was nice to hear his hearty laugh! In his earlier years, he played baseball, fished, golfed, loved to dance, and right up to the end was an excellent Mr. Fix-it! Otto was born in Russia, raised in MacNutt, SK, and lived over the years in Forest, ON, Shoal Lake, Roblin, Dugald, and finally in Winnipeg. Otto spent many years working in creameries, particularly in Shoal Lake, where his skill earned him many awards, including the title, Master Buttermaker. He then studied hard to get his stationary engineer certificate, and worked in that capacity for several companies. Otto will be missed by his sisters, Renata Zimmerman and Sarah Drichel; his daughter Barbara (Ken Hilton); granddaughters, Cheryl Kendall, Lauren Wadge, and Tawnia (Shawn Lavallee); his great-grandchildren, Evan Hiebert and Rachel Kendall. Also missing Otto are nephews and nieces - Rick Zimmerman (Claire) and their children, Matthew and Heather; Caren Zimmerman; his sister Talita's children - Georgia, Jacqueline, and Sheldon and their families. Otto was predeceased by his wife Eva (Braun) in December 2010; by his first wife, Christine (Smith) in 1969; his parents, Richard and Othelia, great-grandson, Tyler; sister, Talita and George Shelby; brother-in-law, Charlie Zimmerman, and two great-nephews. Otto was a good man and lived a long and productive life - we will miss you!
