MARY LOU MARGARET STOKES (nee JACKLIN) Mary Lou Margaret Stokes (nee Jacklin) received her angel wings on January 2, 2014 after a hard fought battle with Cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by family, friends and unwaivering love and dedication on the part of her husband of 57 years, Bill Stokes. She had asked him to help her on her journey and he did just that, never leaving her side. Mary Lou leaves to grieve her husband Bill, her son Bill Jr. (Kim), her son Doug (Myrna), her daughter Karen (Jeff), her sister-in-law Betty Stokes, brother-in-law Chuck Stokes (Lynne), brother Grant Langston, brother Ken Langston, sister Corrine Scott and lifelong friend Sylvia Burdey. Mary Lou leaves to grieve numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Archie Langston, in-laws Helen and Harold Stokes, sister Dorothy Evans, brother Norman Jacklin, and brothers-in-law George and Robert Stokes. Mary Lou was born July 29, 1938 in Windsor, Ontario. Mary Lou was brought up in Thunder Bay, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg when she was seven years old. Mary Lou attended Pinkham, Hugh John MacDonald and Daniel McIntyre for her schooling. Mary Lou was a great wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid supporter of her family. She was always a big supporter of her son Doug's MJHL Coaching Career and would attend all his games. She never missed her grandchildrens' special activities such as sporting events, school plays, choir performances, etc. She always thought of her family and friends before herself. Mary Lou was very fond of saying to her husband "it started out as just the two of us; just look at the big mess we have made." It was a great source of pride for her. Mary Lou was a very hard worker her whole life. She worked for Shell Oil for 31 years retiring in 1991. She then found herself at Sears Canada for another 21 years. She loved gardening and music. She enjoyed 27 years of vacations in the Caribbean. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping trips to the States and casino trips. Mary Lou was a member of the ANAF John Osborne #1 for 40 years. She enjoyed many fun times at dances, dinners and wine and cheese parties. She enjoyed being a member of the Jolly Seniors. Cremation has already taken place as per Mary Lou's wishes. The family would like to extend an invitation for everyone to join us in a celebration of Mary Lou's life on Tuesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the ANAF John Osborne #1 at 360-1395 Ellice Ave. Reverend Robert Campbell of Westminster United Church will preside. Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to CancerCare MB in Mary Lou's memory. "Because of you, because of the stories you've told, the love you've given and the memories we've shared we know where we come from and what it means to be loved." "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly"...it's time to fly now! We will love you forever and always. xoxoxoxo
