ALEXANDER PRATT REID Passed at the Dorothy Macham Home at the Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital in Toronto on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (nee Simpson). Cherished father of Douglas and his wife Colleen of Calgary, Gordon and his wife Leanne of Etobicoke, and Diane Graham and her husband Bob of Mississauga. Loved grandfather of Meghan (Mike), Christopher, Ashley (Tim), Adam (Nadine), Jennifer and Brian (Allie) and recent great-grandfather of Spencer and Hailey. Predeceased by his sister Mabel Bodley (late Norman) and brother George (late Evelyn). Alex was a longtime employee and pioneer at Air Canada. Following his retirement, Alex and Mary operated their own business for many years. Alex could be seen walking miles along the lake in Burlington every day. He always took inspiration from the plaque at Mary's memorial along that same route. "May we walk these shores hand in hand forever." Alex had many special traits including his modesty, caring, stubbornness, honesty, passion and love. So much to admire, so much to miss. Many thanks to all the staff at the Dorothy Macham Home at the Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital for the personal and special care shown to Alex during his 16 month stay. Cremation. A Service in Remembrance and Celebration of Alex's life will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line, BURLINGTON, ON, 905-632-3333 on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Foundation are sincerely appreciated. Tributes are welcome at www.smithsfh.com.
