DOUG GLOVER
Born: May 31, 1953
Date of Passing: Jan 06, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUG GLOVER May 31, 1953 On Monday, January 6, 2014 the person I loved the most in the world passed away due to cancer. He leaves to grieve his sons Matthew and Steve (Kristen), brother George (Lorraine), niece Meredith and family, good friends Bob, Audrey and Don, my friends and family as well as countless other friends, neighbours and previous co-workers. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, in 2006, his father George in 1989 and his niece Christine in 1988. Doug was the funniest, most easy going guy in the world. He had a quick wit and often told me he wanted to meet someone who was as big of a smart ass as he was and that he had met his match when he met me. We had a good life together - travelling, golfing, going out for drinks, listening to loud music downstairs (especially Pink Floyd) or doing projects around the house. We had plans to travel in the winter because he hated the snow and cold more and more each year. He retired at age 55 from the Provincial Government where he spent 32 years as a media specialist. Doug spent his retirement years doing home renovations, working part time as a central vac service tech and puttering around the house and yard. Doug has been cremated as per his wishes and a memorial get together will be held Monday, January 20 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Smitty's Restaurant, 150 Meadowood Dr. in St. Vital. Food and refreshments will be provided. My life changed when I met Doug and has now been turned upside down. I will always love you sweetheart. Val

We hope we make you proud dad, even though you're no longer here, Your memory grows stronger, with every passing year, At the end it was a battle, one you weren't to win, A fight against a demon, no choice but to give in, We wish we could've said goodbye, that evening when you left, Told you you were our hero, and that you were the best, Tears we cry in secret, at night before we sleep, Wishing you were beside us, you'd be forever here to keep, The years don't make it easier, they said the pain would go, It seems we just get better, not letting our feelings show, Wishing we could hold your hand, to shout your name aloud, You're no longer here dad, but we hope we make you proud. Missing you everyday love, Matt and Steve - Posted by: Matthew and Steven Glover (Sons) on: Feb 07, 2017

Doug was a wonderful co-worker at Manitoba Education. Along with Frank and Larry we criss-crossed northern Manitoba in vans and small airplanes, always enjoying each other's company and getting our videos shot. Doug could make anything work, mechanical or electrical, and he had an artist's eye behind the camera. There was a lot of laughter around Doug. - Posted by: Patrick Friesen (Friend/co-worker) on: Feb 01, 2014

I am so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He really was one of the good ones! Val and Doug were truly soul mates and I have never seen her happier than since she met Doug. Doug was such a warm and funny guy! Remember the night in the basement having drinks and watching videos (loud) till the wee hours? Had a blast! So sorry we could not be at the memorial. My heart breaks for you Val - Posted by: Lynn Carlson (Friend) on: Jan 23, 2014

I am very saddened to hear of Doug's passing. We shared many laughs over the years and was one of the best neighbors a person could ask for. I will never forget coming to your garage on Havelock and hanging out and helping with your 28 Ford and the 69 Chevelle. You bought my 396 from my 69 Camaro and rebuilt it to put into the Chevelle but changed your mind. Or the time you couldn't get the Chevelle to start. You were just pissed cause you had tried everything, so I jumped into the front seat and adjusted the neutral safety switch and started the car. I'll never forget the look on your face as you asked "What the hell did you do"?...followed by "You want a beer"? Thanks for the multitude of laughs and memorable moments especially when my sister got freaked out cause she saw you dancing in front of my car at 3 am in the back yard on Frederick. Condolences to Val, Matthew, Steve, to other family and friends during this difficult time. I wish time could be turned back so we could go for one more cruise in the old Ford. Doug...Thanks again for everything... You were definitely "one of the good ones". - Posted by: Jim Levesque (Fellow Gearhead) on: Jan 23, 2014

To the family of Doug, I'm so sorry to hear of his passing I knew him since I was probably 15, we had some wild and stupid times as teens and young guys growing up in Winnipeg. One of the dumbest was when we went to the Dakota Hotel. We had an hour to kill so decided to go to the lounge and start on the drink menu, Doug started with the first drink on the first page I on the the last drink of the last page. As soon as the waitress put the drinks down we would order the next and eventually meet in the middle (what dumb asses). After the hour we had to go ... we walked out .. well not maybe walked .. Doug was always up ready to meet up with is friends and have a good time a few drinks and a ton of laughs ... you will be missed - Posted by: darrel friesen (friend) on: Jan 19, 2014

Doug, you are terribly missed and forever loved by the two greatest loves of your life (sons Matthew and Steve) you filled a space that no one will ever replace. This is sad news to hear of Doug's passing. In the 80s and 90s we made many trips together into very out of the way places in Manitoba's north. Doug, Frank, Pat and I as a video crew for the northern school division. Even when the circumstances were tough or challenging - as they often were - Doug never lost his good nature or his inventiveness. He was a pleasure to work with and I'll remember all our projects and trips together with great fondness. - Posted by: Larry Krotz (friend/co-worker) on: Jan 12, 2014

Doug was truly a wonderful colleague. Along with others, we worked together on the same floor for over 21 years. I missed the lunch table laughs, his infectious curiosity, and his witty quips after he retired. He left the Department with a legacy of quality educational productions that he crafted with independent research and careful precision. There were few technical problems he couldn't solve, or workplace stressors he couldn't overcome. I always enjoyed walking into his studio/office and catching up with him on his various work or home projects, or on what his boys were doing. My sincere condolences to family and close friends who have lost Doug too soon. I pray he has found peace. I'm not able to join you on the 20th, but will be thinking of Doug and all of you in the days to come and beyond. Take Care, - Posted by: Donna Pletz Passey (Colleague) on: Jan 12, 2014
