HANS PAL SINGH BHANGU September 23, 1948 - January 7, 2014 It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Hans Pal Singh Bhangu on January 7, 2014 to cancer. He was born in Punjab, India, the youngest son of S. Dara Singh and Mohinder Kaur Bhangu and moved to Winnipeg in 1972. He made Winnipeg his home, starting a family and a successful grocery store chain, Pal's Supermarket. His hard work and exceptional entrepreneurship was matched with a selfless devotion to those he cared about. He was happiest when in the company of family and friends where he would often be found telling jokes and talking about the virtues of a good education. He will be remembered for his great heart, courageous spirit and ability to push people to be their best. He is survived by his loving wife Tessie; sons Jas and Manny; daughters-in-law Dervla and Anna-Maria; sister-in-law Joginder as well as her children Rana, Chirag, Sukhi, Omar, Mani and Jussi; grandchildren Alessandro, Romir, and Reyan. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donation to be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16 at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., followed by final services at Singh Sabha Gurdwara at 4:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I was fortunate to meet Paul and Tess through mutual acquaintances. Paul was an amazing person who always had a joke to share. He was an advocate for education, as you can see in both of his sons. He had my son work for him on the weekends and I always felt my son was safe and well looked after. I strongly believe that part of my son's success occurred through the relationship that we had with Paul and Tess. I will miss Paul and his colourful jokes, I truly believe we have lost a great soul. - Posted by: Don and Cindy Bergen (Friends) on: Jan 26, 2014

  • I just heard today of Paul's passing. My thoughts are with Tessie, Manny and the rest of the family. After my employment was over at Pal's, Paul always made a point of saying hello and sharing a few words with me whenever I came into the store. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Cathy Z. • We are saddened to learn of Hans' passing, and are thinking of you during this difficult time. Hans made a point of coming over to meet us the day we moved in and warmly welcomed us to the neighbourhood. He was always sure to share a few of his "classic" jokes when we saw each other. - Posted by: The Kozminski's (Neighbours) on: Jan 14, 2014

  • In all my years of working with customers who have become close and cherished friends, Paul has been one of best people I have ever met. His class and integrity have been far superior to most. I will deeply miss you my friend. Peace and well being to all his family. I will think of you with compassion and a love of family. My deepest sympathies. - Posted by: Wayne Laniuk (Friend) on: Jan 14, 2014

  • Hans brother, you brought a smile to everyone who was fortunate to know you. you were the life of every party. yours was a life well lived. with your life partner Tessie on your side you contributed a lot to the community. you loved life and lived it to the fullest. too bad that cancer cut it too short. but then it is not the longevity that matters.. it is the quality. you sure lived a wonderful life. my condolences to tessie for her loss of her loving partner. our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. - Posted by: tej bains (friend) on: Jan 14, 2014

  • Pal & I shared many great moments every time we worked together. I can still remember the laughter when we shared stories and drove the bookkeeper crazy with our banter. I will miss our sessions, great arguments, (that I always lost!); and Pal's infectious laugh. - Posted by: Nelson Collins (Accountant and friend) on: Jan 13, 2014

  • You have my deepest sympathies on the death of your father - Posted by: Rafiq Ahmed (Office ) on: Jan 13, 2014
