ANNETTE AGNES BLAIKIE (nee BIRD) It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Annette Agnes Blaikie on January 10, 2014, at the Victoria Hospital. Annette was born in Oxford, England July 7, 1925. Predeceased by her father Arthur Bird, mother Jessie Bird, brother Thomas Bird, first husband Earl Robinson, and second husband John Blaikie. Annette is survived by her children Jacqueline Fern (Roy), James Robinson (Jill), Jason Robinson (Jan), John Robinson (Val); grandchildren Gillian (Deryk), Gareth (Tara), Geoffrey (Kristy), Sara, David, Roxanne (Spencer), Kimberley (Kris), Megan and Joey, and great-grandchildren Coty, Christopher, Colten, Ryan, Matthew, Macy, Andrew and Jessika. Left in the care of her granddaughter Gillian is her faithful companion, Oliver. Also survived by her brother Jim (Joan), nephew Tom (Sue), Samantha (Paul), Amber, nephew Derek (Denise), Carla, Layla and Ashley. Mum served in the army with the 79th South-Eastern Platoon, "D" Company during the Second World War. She met Earl, who was in England with the Canadian army, and they married in England February 9, 1946. Annette came to Canada as a war bride in August 1946. Annette started working in Eaton's in 1965 retiring 25 years later, she really enjoyed her job in the basement groceteria. During her time at Eaton's she met her second husband John, they married on July 20, 1991. Mum and John enjoyed many trips to England to visit her brother Jim, his wife Joan and their family and had two trips to Scarborough to visit where John had been born. Annette loved music and line dancing at St. Mary Magdalene Church until an arthritic knee put her on the sidelines. She also looked forward each month to the seniors lunch at the church. One of her passions was gardening and she kept the yard festooned with an array of beautiful flowers. She could have been classed as a professional knitter turning out beautiful outfits and sweaters for her grandchildren, assorted blankets and afghans, and special blankets for the rescue dogs at Manitoba Mutts. Mum was very proud of the work her granddaughter Sara was doing as the founder of the organization, Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue, Unit 1-160 Dalhousie, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 2Z1. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 3 St. Vital Road.
