WINNIFRED MILLICENT MERRITT (MILLIE) (nee COMBERBACH) It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Winnifred Millicent Merritt "Millie" (nee Comberbach) at Concordia Place Extended Health Care Facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Millie was 91 years of age, born November 22, 1922 and passed on January 12, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. She passed peacefully, surrounded by love and in the company of family. Millie was predeceased by husband Melvin Alexander (1997), daughter Sharon Mae LaRue Steeves (1998), and son David (at birth). She is survived by daughters Dawne (Don) and Ruth (Robert), and son Robert (Valerie). Millie was the proud grandmother to 13 and great-grandmother to 12. Millie was a stay at home Mom raising four children of her own and took in children as a foster parent. She was a long time member of the ACT Society. She was an awesome cook and baker, loved to feed everyone who came. She was an avid sewer and could knit while seemingly doing other tasks as well. She will be remembered for beautiful knit items and other crafts she did. Her Grade 12 year book said of Millie "wherever she sits, she sits and knits". Millie passed her traits onto her daughters as they are all terrific mothers and grandmothers themselves. A memorial will be held in the spring allowing family and friends to travel and to be together to celebrate Millie's life and contributions. She will be missed and forever loved by her family. Thank you to all those at Concordia Place for the excellent care and respect given for the duration of her life spent there. Guided by her husband and daughter, Millie was placed into the hand of the Lord and received by family that had gone before her.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have fond memories of Auntie Millie, and of her kindness, generosity, and pleasant disposition. I cherish a baby blanket she knit for my youngest son, knowing the time, attention to detail and thoughtfulness that went into its creation. I remember with gratitude the time she spent with my Mother and Grandmother. Please accept my condolences in this time of grief. - Posted by: Susan (Great-niece) on: Jan 15, 2014
