JOHN OVERWATER May 23, 1928 - January 14, 2014 With great sadness we announce the passing of John Overwater on January 14, 2014. John will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Alice; daughter Carol (Bob) Turner, sons Gerry (Mandy), Ron (Donna) and Doug (Robyn); 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Marie Schreyer, in-laws Margaret Maes, Irene Overwater, Jerry and Lorraine Van Wynsberghe and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his grandson Scott Overwater, three brothers and six sisters. John was born and raised in the Tuxedo area on the family farm. During his early years John and his siblings raced bicycles as members of the Tuxedo Bicycle Club. In 1955, John and Alice built a home next door to his brother Neil and sister-in-law Irene on McCreary Road where together they raised their families and farmed. The Overwaters were well known for their vegetable gardens, especially the sweet corn, a tradition carried on by his children and grandchildren. John's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. They will always have many fond memories with grandpa on the farm including snowmobile rides, riding the red trike through the fields and helping pick corn. Many of their adventures ended with "Don't tell Grandma". John will be most remembered for his strong work ethic, his caring nature and his silly jokes. The family would like to thank the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for the care given to John. A private family service will be held.
