STELLA MACIURZYNSKI September 7, 1925 - January 9, 2014 Stella Maciurzynski (nee Pokrywka) passed away peacefully on January 9, 2014 at The Simkin Centre, Winnipeg. Stella is survived by son Walter, grandchildren Alixandra and Nikolaus; son Ted (Esther); sisters-in-law Chris Maciurzynski, Irene Hodyr (Stan), Moreen Macer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her husband Walter, siblings Helen, Anthony, Joseph, Mary, and parents Anthony and Catherine. Stella was born September 7, 1925 and married Walter Maciurzynski in 1953. The majority of her life was spent in the North End, where she maintained life-long friendships. Stella was a faithful member of St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, and contributed her voice to their choir. She was a talented seamstress and worked professionally in a variety of ladies wear shops, maintaining the friendships with her employers and co-workers for many years to follow. Annual family driving holidays in Canada and the US were followed by numerous trips to Poland, where Walter and Stella connected with distant relatives. Following her husband Walter's death in 1995, Stella continued to enjoy travel, with trips to California, Europe, England, and Cuba. Family was always a primary focus. She traveled frequently to Calgary, visiting her grandchildren, as well as her niece Eileen, with whom she had a special and close friendship. Due to deteriorating health, Stella moved to a personal care facility in 2009. The family sincerely thanks the staff at The Simkin Centre, especially nursing care professionals on Simkin 2, whose care, compassion and exemplary professionalism contributed immeasurably to the quality of Stella's life in her final years. Funeral service and interment have taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully acknowledges donations made to the Human Society or an alternate charity of your choice in Stella's name.
