MARGARET FLORENCE CHOVANCHAK (nee MACKO) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother on January 13, 2014 at the age of 93. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, sisters Anna and Marie, brothers Michael, Johnny, Peter, and Tony. Left to mourn are her two sons, Andy (Barbara), Al (Gail), daughter Marlene (Richard) and their daughters Karen and Jennifer. Also left to mourn is her nephew Bernie (Marly) of Thunder Bay and their children Shelley (Jim) and children Amanda and Ryan of Winnipeg, Bernard (Kathy), Cathy (Karl) also of Thunder Bay. Mom was born in Thunder Bay and married Dad in 1940. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1953 with Dad's job transfer. After the kids were grown, Mom decided to become a hair dresser to keep active. She got her license and proceeded to work for the next 35 years, well into her 80s before retiring. For Mom, hairdressing was as much a social event as it was employment. She loved meeting new people and enjoyed conversations with everyone. Mom was always busy doing gardening, preserves, crafts, sewing, knitting and oil painting. These interests helped her live a long and fulfilled life. The family would like to thank all staff at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke or Alzheimer's Foundations. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial is scheduled at the Assumption Cemetery. A service for friends and family will be held on January 20 at 1:00 at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home, 285 Pembina Hwy, main floor Fiola Room.

  • My condolences to the Chovanchak Family. My mom and Margaret lived at Pembina Place PCH and sat at the same table at meal time. It was nice to get to know her Son Al and have conversations about many topics.....sometimes we would even solve some of the Worlds Problems. - Posted by: Dan Rousset () on: Jul 19, 2014

  • My deepest condolences to you all. Your mom and mine have been friends for 40 plus years and my Dad and yours were buddies too. I know my Mom will miss your Mom deeply. The two of them shared so many good times together and your Mom was the only person I have known, who could get a good rise out of my Dad. - Posted by: Pam Heggiw (daughter of her friend Irene) on: Jan 19, 2014
