Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN WAYNE SANDY December 28, 1946 - January 24, 2014 Peacefully on January 24, 2014, due to heart failure, our dad, grandpa, brother and friend, left us to reunite with our mom in heaven. Jack leaves to mourn his daughter Jennifer (Marc), son Michael (Rachel), his three grandsons; Declan, Finn, Anders, and his special friend Ann Louise Long, who watched and kept our dad in line for five years. He also leaves to mourn his brother Bob (Susanne) and their kids Brad and Kim, sister Mavis and her son Jeff Reim, his brother and sister-in-law Randy and Sandy Hull, as well as his nephews Phil (Dallas, Magnan) Hull, and Brian Hull, brother-in-law Jim Hull. As well as many friends. Jack was predeceased by his wife Sharon Sandy (nee Hull). His parents Harry and Irene Sandy, his in-laws Fred and Stella Hull, and nephew Darren Reim. Jack worked hard his whole life. Starting his grocery career at Safeway and continuing on to working as a District Manager for Loblaw's. After retiring, Dad never slowed down. He was a bailiff, and in the last few years he was known to have started his Haul-A-Day business. Dad was passionate about cars. He was a permanent fixture at the Gimli Racetrack, which is now known as the Interlake Dragway. He made many close friends there. He also loved his grandsons who have come to love cars just like their grandpa. He would take them to Monster Trucks, as well as Gimli. He was so proud when Declan got to sit in his favourite Monster Truck "Grave Digger" two summers ago. He spoke of it all the time. We would like to thank the WFPD, Winnipeg EMS, the Concordia Hospital I.C.U for all their help and compassion. At John's request, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave. Reception to follow. Honorary pallbearers are: Brian Scott, Glen Novakowski, Phil Hull, Brian Hull, grandkids Anders, Finn, and Declan. I just recently heard of Jack's passing and am very saddened to hear this news. I first became acquainted with Jack through a friend who had use Jack's hauling service about 4 years ago. I finally met Jack in person at the track 2 years ago. He was happy to finally put the face to the name and we had a great conversation afterward. I saw Scott's double seat rear engine dragster run several times that day. It had been so long since I had made a pass in a dragster and our car was not ready to be run, that I decided to buy a ride. Jack happened to be running by on the quad and I asked him if he knew where Scott was. He told me to hop on and we would go find him. He ran me all over the place until we finally found Scott at the starting line. He said we would need permission to make another run. Jack then drove me around to find Brandy Wruck who gave the go ahead to Scott. He raced me to the front gate to get funds and then dropped me off at the dragster to make the run. Afterward, he stopped by and asked how I felt... I smiled and told him I got the fever bad again. Jack laughed and sped off. I'll never forget Jack's act of generosity that day. I will miss seeing him at the track. R.I.P Jack - Posted by: Jim (Friend) on: Apr 07, 2014

Jennifer and Michael, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with your Dad at one of the Loblaw stores years ago and then got reacquainted when you two came to Maple Leaf. i met jack many years ago while drag racing my cars at keystone and bison dragways. he was close friends with my buddy scotty and i. we all loved cars and traveled to places like saskatoon to race when our local track was not running. 8 years ago i was moving out of winnipeg and i needed to take my pro street vega and my amc amx out of town to my new residence near st.anne manitoba. it was 40- and these cars could not be driven. i called jack and he said he would help me out by delivering both cars for me. i said what would it cost?jack said we can settle on a fair price after the cars are delivered. when he had delivered the cars jack said there is no charge. i had to force him to take $50 for gas but he was not happy about it. but that was jack, a true friend with his heart of gold. i will miss him always, he was one of those rare people who come into our lives. i always enjoyed being at the car shows after our racing days were over listening to his words of wisdom. god bless you jack. jim - Posted by: JIM L'ESPERANCE (friend) on: Jan 29, 2014

I first met Jack through Brian Scott when working part-time at Safeway. Through Brian's friend and part time cashier at our store, there was a house party in Elmwood and I was invited. I found Jack was very friendly and socialable. We weren't close friends, but in grocery business, we were friends. Over the years, on the way home from work, I used to drop in on his store on Main & Luxton and say hello and catch up on things. Sorry to see you go and wished we could have more catch-ups. - Posted by: colin dederick (Fellow grocery friend) on: Jan 27, 2014

We have been neighbours with Jack for 25 years and also good friends. Always great for conversation and a great friend to my son Derek. They spent many times in the driveway talking about Jack's next trip and what he had in his trailer. It was a pleasure to help him hook up and to keep the driveway clear. Couldn't have asked for a better neighbour and good friend. Keith, Sandy, Derek & Trent McLennan - Posted by: Keith Mclennan (Next door neighbour) on: Jan 27, 2014
