RAYMOND EDWARD MIKULIK February 6, 1935 - January 28, 2014 On January 28, 2014, Ray Mikulik, at the age of 78, passed away surrounded by his family after a long and full life. Ray is survived by his wife Doreen, of 58 years, his children, Mike (Cheryl), Carol (Bill) MacKay, Linda, and Karen (Rick) Wright, and his eight grandchildren, Kyle, Cory, Brett, Kerri, Dean, Alyssa, Jennifer (Miguel), and Kevin. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Angela Mikulik, his brother, Lawrence, and sisters-in-law, Anne Mikulik, Ruth Robson, and Hazel Butterworth. Ray was one of the pioneers in the Information Technology industry in Winnipeg, starting his career at Pioneer Grain, then Richardsons, and retiring as Director of Computer Services at the University of Winnipeg in 1990. Ray was fortunate to enjoy 23 years of retirement, living life to the fullest with Doreen. They enjoyed a few winter trips to Texas, where he spent time surf fishing on the Gulf with his brother Lawrence. He enjoyed summers at the cottage at Barrier Bay, and was active on the Whiteshell Cottagers Association. The cottage was a large part of his life. His family originally built it in 1950 and was a mainstay in his life where he, along with Doreen and his children and later grandchildren, built additions and sheds, and docks and decks, and decks and decks. He was very active with golf in the summer and curling in the winter. Through the years, he curled at West Kildonan, Elmwood (Past President), West St. Paul, Sportsmen's League, Granite Masters, Heather, and finally found his happy place curling in the Masters League at Rossmere Country Club. Ray curled his final curling game on January 6, 2014, and got a hole-in-one while golfing with his grandson Dean on June 27, 2005. As a teenager, he was very active in hockey and baseball. In 1999, Ray along with a few of his cohorts organized a 50 Year Carruthers Hockey Reunion that rekindled many old friendships. In more recent years, friendships were found while having coffee at The Forks. Nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren. It didn't matter how far he had to drive, Grandpa's taxi service was always happily available to take the kids to their various activities around town. In keeping with Ray's wishes cremation has taken place, and a Come and Go Celebration of his life will take place on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at E.J. Coutu & Co. Funeral Directors, 680 Archibald Street. The family would like to thank Dr. J. Johnston, Erin and Holly, and Dr. S. Brian Penner, Jim and Ima, and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their quick and respectful response. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. Dear Auntie Doreen and all the family, Uncle Ray will always be remembered by us for the kindness and fun he showed us whenever we made it to Winnipeg for visits. We especially remember the one trip we made to the cottage and how much fun was to be had out there. We are so very sorry for this tragic loss. Uncle Ray will be dearly missed by us. - Posted by: Fred and Jennifer Butterworth (Nephew and wife) on: Feb 02, 2014

Ray and I worked together for fifteen years. He was one of the best co-workers I ever had. I will always remember our morning coffee and discussions on life, current events, and everything else. - Posted by: Roger Kingsley (co-worker) on: Feb 02, 2014

I have very fond memories of Ray (and Doreen) Mikuluk while growing up...time at your cottage playing cards, digging for worms, fishing, skiing; he taught me how to parallel park to get ready for my driver’s licence; he coached our baseball team and of course both of their tireless support at our curling matches. I have no doubt that “Mr. Mikuluk” has left a huge hole in this world and I am so sorry for your loss. Jan Wiebe - Posted by: Jan Wiebe (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2014
