  • Greg was from the greatest era of Detectives in the history of the Winnipeg Police..Sawatzky, McNiece, Bozyk, Schultz, Nolan, King, Wickdahl ,Vander Graaf and Taylor with so many others. He was a good cop, a character of great magnitude and always a wonderful buddy to socialize with. They really DON'T make them like this anymore. • My sincere condolences to Greg's family. I had the pleasure of working with "Butch" in 1983-84 in the Detective Div. He was larger than life and despite his outward gruff exterior there was the intelligence, charm and kindness that was the man. I can still hear him in the police car suddenly singing "some enchanted evening" or some other classic old song. I could write a book of stories about working with and getting to know Greg. I will miss him. - Posted by: Bob Russell (Friend and old partner) on: Feb 08, 2014

  • I knew Greg briefly. The past 4 years or so... The first thing he said to me was "obviously you didn't go to finishing school". I was furious. He cursed like a sailor but I was supposed to be a lady. The next time I met him all bets were off. He was such a forgiving soul... as was I. I can't believe he is gone. He was my joy... my friend. In the end. Always will be. - Posted by: Sandra McGonigal (Friend) on: Feb 06, 2014

  • A great guy. I so very much enjoyed working with him back in the days. He was funny, quick witted and tough when needed. He was a mentor to many younger officers. And though I do remember some of the things he taught me, mostly I remember laughing. RIP - Posted by: Gary Walker (Friend and ex collegue) on: Feb 04, 2014

  • We were saddened to hear about Greg's passing. He will always be remembered for his passion for fishing and blueberry picking. Murt, it is always hard to find the right words at a time like this. • I was saddened to hear of the loss of Greg, or as I knew him when I was a kid "Mr Kurdydyk". Having grown up with him as a neighbor and then having the opportunity to spend the first few years of my career working with him was something I always look back fondly on. I particularly enjoyed the times he took us neighborhood boys to his "secret" trout spot at Lyons Lake. Great childhood memories. I am glad I had the opportunity to catch up with him last summer. Rest In Peace Mr Kurdydyk. - Posted by: Barry Kostchuk (Fellow police officer, family friend) on: Feb 03, 2014
