Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) HENRY BROWN March 23, 1929 - February 2, 2014 With great sadness, we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Brown. He was considered the older son to Paul and Darlene Desaulniers, his foster care providers, and a brother to Dustyn Desaulniers. Predeceased by his parents Isaac and Kathrina (nee Wiens), sister Dorothy Johnson and brothers Jacob, Isaac, and John. Bob was born in Winkler, MB, moved at the young age of three to Winnipeg. Bob's first job was at Versatech Industries Inc. (formally ARC Industries Inc.) where he worked for 28 years from 1962 to 1994, before retirement. Bob had gotten written acknowledgement from his employer for always happily completing his work. He was always someone that was in good humour. He also had received numerous "Employee of the Month" awards from the company. Bob was a type of person that liked to keep busy, after retirement he joined Community Ventures where he became one of the oldest members. Bob enjoyed going to Community Ventures where the staff and friends became family for Bob. At the age of 58 (1988), Bob's mother Kathrina was unable to look after Bob anymore, Bob moved out on his own. Thanks to New Directions for Children and Youth, and Family / Bridges Programs and care providers, he was able to make the move. Bob made a lot of new friends, and staff made Bob feel just like at home, they were always very professional in helping take care of Bob's needs, they enjoyed seeing Bob when he came in for a visit. The New Directions / Bridges Program helped find care providers for Bob, Paul and Darlene Desaulniers. Paul and Darlene became Bob's new family. In 2004, Paul and Darlene decided to become foster care providers to Bob. Paul and Darlene took Bob on many trips. Bob enjoyed going to car shows, collecting diecast cars and tractors, books and magazines. Bob really enjoyed the outings with Paul and Darlene's family and friends, his Thursday outings with the guys at "Chicken Chef" and during the week, outings to Tim Horton's. Bob was also involved in Special Olympic Bowling's "High strikers", which was originally out of Garry Lanes and then moved to Coronation Lanes. Thanks to his "Coach" Mary Harrison, fellow bowlers (his friends and comrades), staff and volunteers. Bob really enjoyed five pin bowling. Bob was also a story teller, he would talk about animals, hunting, skinning bears, dog sleighs, tractors and the farm. Bob really loved talking about the farm and is why his nickname became "Farmer Bob". Bob was a type of person that would put a smile on your face. We will miss Bob. Funeral services will take place at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, with visitation one-half hour prior to service time. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
