PAULINE CHANT On February 1, 2014, Pauline (91), wife of Peter Chant went home to the Lord. Pauline Snyder was born on July 27, 1922 in Manitou, Manitoba to Ward Everett Snyder and Margaret Julia (Peggy) Burke Snyder; and grew up on Seven Acres farm in rural Manitoba. From the very first day of Business College, she loved everything about it. Pauline was a proficient writer and artist; and also attended the Winnipeg School of Art. After she got her feet wet' working with Mr. W. J. Rowe, publisher and editor of the Manitou Western Canadian, a small-town newspaper, she applied to the Winnipeg Tribune and was hired by F. J. O'Malley, executive editor in 1944. She worked with the bureau men in Ottawa, Washington, London and with war correspondents on the western front. As a young woman, Pauline was a member of the Young Conservatives, traveling to Ottawa with the Manitoba delegation, which included a young, red-haired man named Sterling Lyon. In Ottawa she met such notables as John Diefenbaker, George Pearkes, V.C., George Drew, Robert Stanfield, and Prime Minister Mackenzie King. Pauline met Rector Peter Chant in 1948 and they wed on September 10, 1949 at Manitou's St. John's Church. Peter's work as an Anglican minister and Pauline's as the rector's wife took them to various postings in western Canada. Pauline was an excellent mother and a born teacher who excelled in music and art, politics and world affairs. There was nothing she couldn't discuss or comment on knowledgeably. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Peter, a son, Peter, grandsons, Reginald (Reggie) and David, sisters Nora and Molly, brother Ward Jr., and parents Ward Sr. and Peggy. She leaves to mourn three daughters, Margaret Kanashiro (Warren) of Lethbridge, Alberta; Mary Tucker (Leonard) of Ship Cove, Newfoundland, and Debbie Webb (Steve) of Edmonton, Alberta; three sons, Mike (Janis) of Winnipeg, Danny (Flora) of Edmonton, and Patrick Chant of Winnipeg, as well as 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pauline is survived by one brother, Irvin Snyder (Ruth) of Winnipeg, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to CNIB. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
