Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE GLADYS AITKEN (nee GEHRING) (formerly KEITH) Peacefully on February 5, 2014 Gertrude passed away at the age of 102 years. She is predeceased by her first husband Arthur Keith; second husband Robert (Bob) Aitken; brother Martin Gehring, and sister Elizabeth Waddell. She is survived by her sister Margaret Smith and brother Richard "Dick" Gehring; stepchildren Lorna and Doreen; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends as well as her close "Church Family". Gertrude loved her bowling, was an active member of the Young United Church, was very involved with the Rebekah's and her favourite pastime was playing scrabble at family gatherings. At Gertrude's request cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Young Street United Church, 222 Furby Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gertrude's memory may be made to the Young United Church. I send my condolences to Gertrude's family. Up until 2 years ago I was in contact with Gertrude and the lodge we both belonged to got together for her 100th birthday which was January 26th, 2012. We also belonged to a group of sisters (mostly 6 of us when I became a member of the group) that went out to dinner to celebrate our birthdays. Gertrude's and my birthdays were celebrated together as my birthday is the day after Gertrude's was. She was a wonderful lady - in the real sense of Lady! I feel very privileged to have known her.
