HELEN LANDELS MCKAY April 6, 1929 - February 1, 2014 Peacefully, at the age of 84 years, with her family by her side, Mom departed from our lives. Her spirit, however, will live on with us all forever. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen has left to mourn her loving husband Bud; daughter Sharon (Ken); grandson Matthew (Marcy); and her grandchildren Katie and Wes McKay. She was predeceased by her son Kerry and her sister Marion. Mom was a wonderful woman who cherished her family and friends more than anything. She especially loved time spent with family and friends at our cottage on Dogtooth Lake. She always made sure her flowers were well taken care of and that the hummingbird feeder was full. Mom and Dad spent many winters as "Snowbirds" in Lakeland, Florida, where they met a wonderful group of both Canadian and Americans whose friendships Mom cherished. Mom also enjoyed the time she spent with the "Bridge" ladies and also the many walks with friends in Assiniboine Park. Mom retired from the Bank of Montreal after many years of dedicated service and where she made lifelong friendships. After retiring, Mom volunteered her time at the Nearly New Shop, whose proceeds went to the Children's Hospital. In accordance with family wishes, no service is being considered at this time. We would like to thank the wonderful people at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their care and compassion with Mom during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, would be sincerely appreciated. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204-897-4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I just heard of Helen's passing and want to extend my sympathy to the family. Helen and I were involved together in many facets of Charleswood United Church activities. She was a great worker and willing volunteer as well as friend. She will be sorely missed by her family. - Posted by: Alene Anderson (friend) on: Feb 10, 2014

  • I would like to extend my condolences to the McKay Family, Mr. Bud McKay, Sharon and family, Wes and Katie and family. My sister and I were great friends with Kerry and Karen and in the early days of Dogtooth I can say I was happy to have been a part of the lake experience. Dogtooth was a beautiful sanctuary and starting point of a lot of fantastic memories...I'm sure the family will have many fond memories for years to come of Helen(Gramma). - Posted by: Jill Dowsett Welch (Friend of Kerry) on: Feb 09, 2014

  • Would like to express my condolances to Bud and Sharon on the passing of Helen. Mrs. McKay always invited Kerry's friends with open arms into their home and cottage. We so looked forward every weekend when growing up in Charleswood to head out to Dogtooth. Some of the fondest memories I have in life were spent at GJ McKays and Helen and Bud always made sure we were welcome. I miss those days and want to thank Helen for enhancing my life in such a positive way. - Posted by: Gary Cole (Friend of family) on: Feb 09, 2014
