MILTON (MINT) RICHARDSON
Date of Passing: Feb 07, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILTON (MINT) RICHARDSON On Friday, February 7, 2014, Milton Mint' Richardson, beloved father of Robin, Brenda, and Lori (Patrick) Versavel, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years with his family at his side. Dad lived a truly blessed life with the one exception which was the loss of Jean, his wife, best friend, and lifetime partner. After Jean passed away in 1996, he used his appetite for learning and his confidence to try new skills to teach himself how to cook, bake, and keep house, managing to live alone in his Transcona home until he was 93 years of age. Fortunately for Dad, he was comfortable with a quiet life. He was raised as a single child in the small community of Ochre River, Manitoba and much of his best time was alone, whether driving for MacLeod's Hardware to open new stores throughout western Canada, puttering or sailing at the Whiteshell, reading mystery novels, or repairing broken bicycles for his children. Dad was an accomplished amateur electrician, painter, plumber, and general fix-it guy. His favourite medium though was wood, as a boy making fretwork plaques out of balsam wood, then carpentry around the home and cabin, followed by carving and intarsia during retirement. Not selfish with his abilities, he was quick to help neighbours fix frozen plumbing at the trailer park in Texas, canvass for donations for the church, or dress-up as Santa for the children on the street. He would spend endless hours driving the family motor boat while teaching his family and their friends how to water ski. Still, there was special time for family, visiting his parents and in-laws in Dauphin, and taking various family trips coast to coast across Canada and to Disneyland in California. After retirement, he and Jean travelled to Africa, Europe, Great Britain, and took a tramp steamer trip through the Panama Canal, wherever she wanted to go, he would oblige. But, the most important travels were their annual trips to Rockport and McAllen, Texas in winter and Big Whiteshell Lake in summer. Dad personified the qualities of honesty, integrity, kindness, and service to others. He valued his life-long membership with the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, like his father before him. Dad was always quick to laugh and generous to a fault. His independence and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew him. Special thanks to Dr. Ray Martens, WRHA, the staff at the Rosewood (Fernwood House) and Deer Lodge Centre, and to our friends who have been so supportive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Harvest or a charity of your choice. His was a life well lived.

We didn't know Milton at all, but we met his son, Robin, several years ago on a cruise and have since kept in touch. Robin has always told us about his father, sending us photos, etc., which was nice. Our condolences go to the Richardson family at this time.
