BRYAN BLAIR Bryan Blair was born January 2, 1944 in Winnipeg to Burt and Doris Blair. Bryan went to school in Winnipeg and graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate in 1963. Bryan began working for Air Canada in 1963 as a passenger service person where he met Monika Luning. They were married on December 2, 1967. In 1969 they moved to Vancouver and their son, Christopher was born there. Subsequently their jobs with Air Canada took them to Montreal and finally Toronto. Bryan continued to work for Air Canada as a flight dispatcher until 1992. When he retired, he was a Shift Manager in Dispatch. Then he went to work for the slot coordination office that looked after the runway slots at Toronto Pearson Airport. He again retired in December 2010. Bryan was a consummate dispatcher and a great ambassador for flight dispatch throughout Air Canada and the industry. In the slot coordination office, he used his knowledge to assist the airlines with their schedules into and out of YYZ (Toronto). He worked with people from around the world in similar situations and Monique and Bryan frequently attended meetings around the world in the course of his work. His life touched many people from all over the globe and so the aviation community have lost a great friend. Bryan passed away February 19, 2014 at Brampton Civic Hospital in Brampton, Ontario. His son Christopher (Chris) was at his side when he died. Bryan was predeceased by his parents, his wife Monique, his father and mother-in-law Karl and Anneliese Calden, his brother-in-law Walter Nachbauer, and his nephew Michael Vickers. Bryan is survived by his son Christopher, Uncle Ed and Aunt Lorna, Aunt Carole, cousins Sheldon (Charlene), Nonie (Gerry), sisters-in-law Heather (John), Hildegard (Jim), Rika (Jeff), brother-in-law Michael (Heather) (Martha), nephews and nieces Patrizia (Rob), Douglas, Annamarie (Stephan), Nicole (Lars), Ian, Bettina, Martina, grand-niece Amanda and grand-nephew Jeffrey. Bryan was a quiet, unobtrusive, private person whose work and family were his life. After retirement, Bryan and Monique enjoyed travelling in North America visiting family in Canada, and also in Germany. He was Monique's devoted primary caregiver during the illness that ended her life. He will be missed by more people than we will ever know. Charitable donations in Bryan's name may be made to the charity of your choice. A memorial service for Bryan was held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on Sawchuk Drive and Main Street south of Selkirk, Manitoba.

  • So sorry about your father, Chris. You have gone through so much lately. Try to take it easy as you slowly try to piece your life back together, and call us if we can help in any way. We are thinking of you. - Posted by: Joy & Elmer () on: Feb 28, 2014

  • Chris, I was saddened, and shocked for you to hear of the passing of your father. You have gone through so much in the short life you have lived, it is undeserving. Just so you know, you have many friends at work, and not a day goes by that you are not thought of, and mentioned with concern. You are not only a work colleague to me, but I consider you a friend as well, and thought of often. My deepest sympathies to you Chris. Al - Posted by: Allen Weedon (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2014

  • Bryan was a friend and colleague with TCA in 1964. We traded shifts, we traded stories, and we traded life's experiences following our path into entry of AC. Also a treasured memory is of his father Bert, also a great leader in our working lives. Rest in peace Bryan. You are part of my history. - Posted by: Joan Farnfield (Friend and colleague) on: Feb 25, 2014
