BETTY BAYOMI (nee YAREMA) August 14, 1927 - February 16, 2014 We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother and wife, Betty Bayomi, on February 16, 2014 at Grace Hospital, at age 86. She will be dearly missed by Julius, her husband of 55 years, and sons Dennis (Heidi) and Donald (Nicole). Mom was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Yarema (nee Galay); stepfather Phillip Mochnal; sisters Effie, Marion, Ollie, Pauline, Rose, Stella, and Verna, and brothers Steve and Ernie. Also surviving Mom are numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws Murray (Peggy) Jordan, Sylvia Yarema, Heidi's parents Delfin and Lucinda Cruz in the Philippines, cousins, and many friends. Mom was born near Sifton, Manitoba on August 14, 1927, the fourth of ten children. A child of the Great Depression, Mom grew up quickly, helping her parents with chores on the farm and looking after her little brothers and sisters. During the war, Mom worked at the Rex Cafe in Dauphin and later in Winnipeg at Swifts. By the mid 1950s, while living on Kennedy Street, Mom's attention was drawn to a young pharmacist who lived nearby. It wasn't long after that Mom and Dad married and shortly after, the boys came along. Mom was as comfortable with a rolling pin in her hand as a hammer or paintbrush. One hour she'd be baking a pie or knitting a scarf, the next she'd be painting a room or building a storage cabinet. Since the late 1970s, Mom enjoyed gardening, socializing, garage sales, playing cards, and feeding the hummingbirds and chipmunks at Hillside Beach trailer park. Thanks to the very supportive staff at Grace Hospital where Mom spent considerable time over the past year; Deer Lodge Day Hospital; Oakview Place Day Program (Mom's "Tuesday Ladies Club"); and the Home Care program. Service will be held at St. Basil's Parish, 202 Harcourt Street, on Saturday February 22 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mom's favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society. "We love you and miss you, Mom!"
