JOAN GAIL RICHES (nee LITTLEWOOD) July 1, 1941 - February 22, 2014 Joan left this world peacefully on February 22, 2104 at Grace General Hospital, in Winnipeg, surrounded by her devoted sons. Joan was predeceased by her husband David, parents Leila and Berry Littlewood, sisters-in-law Joan Bentley and Ann McIntyre, and brother-in-law Tony Breman. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her sons John Riches (partner Lisa), Matthew Riches (wife Julie) and Steven Riches (partner Scott); sister Shaunda Hanlon (husband Patrick), Leila Breman, brother John Littlewood (wife Dana). Nana Book will also be fondly thought of by grandsons Harrison, Eric and Benjamin Riches and their mother Nicola, and many nieces and nephews in both the Riches and Littlewood families. After spending her formative years in Manitoba and graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Masters in Social Work, Joan moved to Toronto where she embarked on a successful social work career while raising her three beloved sons. Joan enjoyed volunteering, including long term involvement with Goodwill Industries, in addition to supporting many other worthwhile causes. Joan spent her later years in Winnipeg, being closer to her Littlewood family. Mum will be fondly remembered for her brilliant mind, great sense of humour, compassion, generosity and her indomitable spirit. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family ask that all attending wear a splash of colour or something that sparkles in honour of Joan. Many thanks to the caring fifth floor staff at Grace General Hospital for the kindness, humour and compassion in mum's final days.
