JOAN BENCE ELSEY
Date of Passing: Feb 23, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN BENCE ELSEY Joan went to be with Jesus on February 23, 2014 after a long illness. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Rev. Dr. Byron Elsey and children Rachel (Doug) Barkley, Ruth (Todd) McKay, Pauline (Jeff) Tanner, Anna (Andy) Mittelstadt and Tim Elsey, along with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joan served with her husband in churches in Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba for over 50 years. She was a leader in ministries for children and women. Music was a big part of her life. Her work at the Community Ministry for ex-offenders (CMEO) was critical to its success. As a summer resident of Gull Lake her passions for swimming, gardening, entertaining and creating special memories for her family shone. A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Broadway First Baptist Church, 790 Honeyman Avenue on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice.

Joan's friendship was a gift that she gave willingly. Her gentle nature and warmth drew people to her and held them there. I will always cherish the times I spent with her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her but her spirituality and faith will now lead her to a new life of love. May she rest in peace for eternity and live on in the memories of those who loved her. - Posted by: Maureen Doyle (Friend/CoWorker) on: Mar 01, 2014

Byron we are very sorry for your great loss and we would like to celebrate her going to be with our Lord Jesus. Joan was a wonderful person and she welcomed me in her home when I was so alone and had no family. I was made to feel special and loved. We are blessed to have met her in our lives and will one day walk the streets of gold with her, where there is no more pain and only the warmth of the sun and having an eternity in a new body that walks with Jesus. Forever!! Garry and Lynn zeron - Posted by: joan elsey (friend) on: Feb 28, 2014

Truly a wonderful person. We shared some laughs and tears over the years, saw her children get married, her grandchildren be born, loved the memories. Such a wonderful caring person, always so thoughtful, she made my children wonderful gifts. It has been a pleasure to have had Joan in my life. - Posted by: Anita Ahluwalia (Hairdresser first and friend after know Joan since 1981) on: Feb 27, 2014

Dear Byron, We send our love and sympathy to you and all your family on the loss of dear Joan. We think fondly of the times we shared decades ago - at Broadway, at McMaster, and in our rural Manitoba pastorates. Blessings always. Joan visited me every week for the last 5 years or so to get her hair done and I always looked forward to her gracing the shop with her smile and her stories of her family and life at the cabin. Joan is one of those customers that I will always hold dear to my heart and cherish our weekly visits and talks. Joan, you were a dear friend and like a mother to me, and I will miss you tons! Love forever!! - Posted by: Shelly Cozine (Joan's hairstylist @ Cozy Cuts) on: Feb 27, 2014
