HANS KARL FRANZ STUTZKE Hans passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014. He was predeceased by his son Bernd (Bernie), and is left to mourn his passing by his daughter Sonja, daughter-in-law Judy, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and his dear and long-time friend Trudy. Hans was born in a small village on his grandfather's farm close to Gumbinnen in East Prussia, a former state of Germany. This is where Hans grew up and received his education. At age 17, Hans joined the Navy and served in the North Atlantic. Following the war, Hans worked in Oberstdorf, Kaiserslautern, Montreal, Portage la Prairie, and for the last 40 years of his career (before retiring in 1999) at the St. Regis Hotel in Winnipeg. Hans enjoyed playing Skat and dancing with all his friends at the German Club, where he was a proud and active member. Hans loved his summers at Hillside Beach and his winter visits to Puerto Vallarta. A Memorial service will be held for Hans on Friday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Abundant Life Lutheran Church in East St. Paul, 3486 Raleigh Street (half km North from Hoddinott). May he rest in peace.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • The St. Regis Hotel had the privilege of having Hans as their bar manager. I met him when I became general manager of the hotel. Hans was never without a good joke. He had a lot of excellent qualities about him and just fabulous to work. Peter Bradley - Posted by: Peter Bradley (co-worker) on: May 04, 2015

  • Dear Trudy & Family We are still in Florida & read with sorrow of the passing of your dear friend. Always a hi when we met him at Hillside and at the dance at the German Club. • I worked with Hans at the St. Regis Hotel from 1980 until his retirement in 1999. For many years afterwards, after his long walk from home to the hotel, we often talked about his old days at the hotel and mine. I think he enjoyed the fact that he knew someone from the old days at the hotel, well at least my old days. :) - Posted by: Rob (Co-worker at St. Regis Hotel) on: Mar 05, 2014

  • Hans came into my life in 1970 when I met his son, Bernd. He was the best father-in-law I could have ever had. He was so caring, considerate, compassionate and genuine. I will remember him always walking with his walking stick and us going blueberry or saskatoon picking. He loved being at Hillside Beach and was known for going swimming even on the coldest of days. I will miss him a lot. Bye Pa. - Posted by: Judy (Daughter-in-law) on: Mar 03, 2014
