IAN FRASER AIRD It is with sadness we announce the passing of Ian Fraser Aird on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Poseidon Personal Care Home where he has been a resident for the past seven months. Thanks to the staff for great programs and the heartfelt care he received. His family was by his side at the end. Ian is the oldest son of the late Simon and Elsie Aird and was born on December 18, l930. He grew up in Transcona. He is survived by his wife Lillian Aird (nee Millar) of 52 years, sons Brian (Sherry), Ken (Kim) and his grandchildren Kevin, Cory, Taylor and Joshua. Brother Keith and family in Calgary, sister Bonnie Lindstrom and family in Winnipeg, brother-in-law Archie Millar, Manor, SK. Ian went to work for the CNR when he was 17 years of age as an Office Clerk and retired 39 years later as a Prevention Officer. In his retirement, Ian enjoyed golf in the summer and his mixed curling leagues in the winter. He also kept up with his daily ritual walks through the Southdale and Windsor Park neighbourhoods, which he was known for. This free time also allowed him to complete a lifelong dream by writing his first novel. Ian was a wonderful father and husband. He coached his sons in baseball and hockey and loved to cheer them on at their games. Family vacations were also a special moment, with road trips in the month of August a yearly ritual and later in retirement, Ian and Lil would travel down south. A celebration of his life will be held at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 with Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Outreach Programs at Windsor Park United Church. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. Coutu & Co.
