Professor Hughes was the best teacher I ever had. I was never actually in one of his classes; he had long since retired by the time I met him as a lad. I will remember forever the books and wisdom that the professor passed to me on Saturday afternoons from his post behind the pillar at the Pemby, the warmth, eloquence, and kindness of the man himself, and the charming upside down flowers stuck to the roof of his library. I can but hope that I one day do justice to his tutelage. Nosce te ipsum remains my motto in thy honor, sir, for yourself I know you knew. - Posted by: Alexander (Former unofficial student ) on: Feb 19, 2018
