Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE HELEN SHERRITT June 24, 1918 - February 19, 2014 Peacefully, at home in her own chair, on February 19, 2014, Irene Helen Sherritt (nee Nickel) (formerly Clawson) passed away at the age of 95. She is survived by her husband Harold Sherritt, stepdaughters Dianne (Lewis) Cardin, Joanne (Ian) Moore, Marian (Bill) Evans; stepsons Harold/Sam (Brenda) Sherritt, and John Sherritt; grandchildren Jennifer (John) Rogers, Nicole (Ric) McKerracher, Sharon (Nick) Pypops, David Moore (Susan Green), Adam Sherritt, Darin Sherritt, Ryan Sherritt, Lauren Sherritt, and Aryn Sherritt; great-grandchildren Noah, Emily, Aiden, Mark, Kate, Xavier and Finnlea; her brother-in-law Nick Station; niece Laurie Duster and nephew Todd Station; Joy and Gordon French, and numerous other cousins. Irene was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Julia Nickel; her sister Anne Station; her brother Len Nickel, and her first husband, Eugene Clawson. Irene was born on June 24, 1918 in Camper, Manitoba. In 1926, with her family, Irene moved to Winnipeg, and she attended King Edward and Isaac Newton schools. She had a 43 year sewing career in the garment trade in Winnipeg, retiring in 1983. In 1952, Irene married Eugene Clawson. She and Gene enjoyed train travel, bowling and had an active social life with many friends. In 1993, Irene married Harold Sherritt, who was 82, and took on the role of mother and grandmother for the first time at age 75. Her family of four grown children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren became her pride and joy. Irene and Harold were happy together. Irene was a skilled paper tole artist and had filled her home with beautiful works. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed travelling. In 2007, Irene and Harold moved to the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence. They loved living there. They treasured the friendships they made there, and spent many happy hours visiting and playing cards. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson officiating.
