LEONA PEARL HARVICH Leona Pearl Harvich, 80, of Victoria, BC, died peacefully February 8, 2014. She was born to the late Leon and Francis Harvich, April 21, 1933, in Winnipeg, MB. Leona graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois with a Masters degree in Art Education. Leona was a citizen of the world who travelled far and wide and made her home first in Winnipeg, then in California and finally in Victoria. She was a high school Art teacher until her retirement and was passionate about education, painting, sketching and writing about her experiences. Leona had friends all over the world and will be missed and fondly remembered by more than can be counted in these lines. She is survived by her brother Robert of Winnipeg, MB, and her three children: April Lee of Pointe Calumet, PQ, Tracy Katherine of Victoria, BC and Jeffrey Douglas of Winnipeg, MB. She also is survived by six grandchildren and was soon to be a great-grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A memorial was held in Victoria on February 21 and a private memorial is planned for her friends and family in Winnipeg later this year.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Tracy, April and Jeff, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. She was a beautiful person who I can say taught me so much as a young person. Her bravery, her intellect and her strength will always be a part of you and people like me who were so blessed to have known her. - Posted by: Sandy (Family friend) on: Mar 01, 2014

  • I was saddened to read this. Ms. H was an exceptional art teacher. I started off in her photography class and and later on she was my art teacher and she got me some art training via the Winnipeg Art Gallery for gifted artists which really allowed me to explore art. Incredible teacher, fearless yet firm, cool and funny. Was my pleasure to have known you. Rest in Peace. Craig Cottrell - Posted by: Craig Cottrell (Past Student) on: Mar 01, 2014
