SARA OBERTH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt and dear friend on February 26, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Sara was predeceased by her father Carl in 1970, her mother Regina in 2006, and her long-time partner Lloyd Stubbs in 2005. She leaves to mourn her sisters Regina Shute, Winnipeg, Hildy McCormack (George) Victoria, British Columbia and brother Dr. Ronald Oberth (Flip) Toronto, Ontario along with nieces and nephews, Jan Shute (Doug Harvey), Ken Shute (Barbara), Gordon Shute (Karen) all of Winnipeg and Joanne Shute (Rene Sergerie) Quebec City, Dr. Gemma Oberth, Cape Town, South Africa and Carla Oberth, New York City. Sara was born in Saros in the Transylvanian region of Romania on May 31, 1927 and emigrated to Canada in 1929 with her mother and sister to join their father who emigrated two years earlier to make a home for the family in Winnipeg. In her early years Sara was an enthusiastic participant in every school and community club she could find. She carried her very social nature into the business world where she worked with the governing body of general insurance companies in Western Canada before becoming the personal secretary to the manager of the Commercial Union Group of British insurers in Winnipeg. Sara was also member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 65 years through which she made many lasting and supportive friendships. Sara was the kindest, most thoughtful and generous person you could ever hope to meet. Her wonderful sense of humour made our frequent gatherings at the family cottage on Lake Brereton full of fun and laughter. We give special thanks to Gord and Karen Shute for the loving care they provided to their Aunty Sari during her declining health and before she moved into the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care unit. We also give special thanks to the wonderful nurses and care workers for their compassion and kindness given to Sara during her final weeks. A memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street on Wednesday, March 5 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 or St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, C1026-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, R2H 2A6. She had a smile for everyone. She had a heart of gold. She left the sweetest memories for all of us to hold. It broke our hearts to lose you Sara, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day you were called home. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 338-7111
